Hi,

My car insurance (OneCall Insurance) is threatening to cancel my insurance tomorrow if i don't get my V5 and driving licence changed to my current address.

I told them 3 months ago that i had split from wife and gave my new address - and sent council tax bill and DVLA letter and driving licence and V5 in old address.

I've now been given 7 days to get the new address on V5 and licence? or they will cancel the insurance?

can they do this? Ive told them everything and yet they are still threatening me - but STILL taking the payments each month!?

I would suggest posting on the motoring board - having car insurance cancelled has catastrophic affects on the price of cover, and insurers willingness to provide cover, going forward and without an end date.
  • Thanks ill do that

One of them (driving licence?) having the wrong address can lead to a £1,000 (?) fine I believe - not from the insurance company; a real fine.

I've had a quick look at their website, and yes it is in the terms and conditions of the policy that the documentation to support your policy must be at the address they have for you, and so yes they can cancel the policy if you are not meeting their terms.

Seven days is pushing it a bit, get the change of address forms sent off and see if they'll extend it to a couple of weeks as the DVLA aren't that quick.
(Although I could be wrong, I often am.)
  • Ignoring the issue of particular insurer's T&Cs, does the V5 have to be registered at your home address? I thought it just needed to be an address you can be contacted at?

If so, it would potentially affect a lot of people?

But is the OP contactable at the address on the V5?

And as I said on the other thread ... is there not a £1,000 fine for having incorrect details on your driving licence?

At the very least I would think it legitimate for the insurer to query why you're using different addresses for different purposes.

Rather than argue about whether you can still be contacted via your estranged spouse, at an address which you presumably have no intention to return to, much easier just to change the address to match.

In would be worried about the fine and APNR camera leading to vehicle seized as insurance details are wrong or insurance has been voided .

Indeed the wrong details on a driving license can get you a £1000 fine, only 1 person at fault here and thats the op.
