PPI from separate company

Hi All

I had a loan back in 2007 with Northern Rock, who told me I couldn't have the loan without PPI. However I refused to have their own PPI and took it out with a separate company instead.

Unfortunately I can't remember what the PPI company name was. I have no paper work as I've moved house well after that loan finished and no longer have the paperwork.

Would I actually have any chance of claiming, and if so who would I claim against? Northern Rock, or the PPI company I used?

Many thanks

Northern Rock didn't sell you PPI so you have no complaint with them.
  • What would be your complaint reason(s)?

You willingly bought ppi from the ppi company, what makes you think you can have it back....

You can only complain if it was miss sold to you and have proof to back that complaint uo
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I didn't "willingly" buy it, I begrudgingly bought it because I was told I wouldn't get the loan without it....

i remember the phonecall well, the guy said you will need to take out PPI in order for me to get the loan, I argued I didn't need it, he said I did, else they wouldn't give me the loan. I said I wouldn't pay their own PPI charges, I'd find a 3rd party insurance cheaper elsewhere, to which he replied, they would need to see proof I had PPI in place before releasing funds, which I later provided.

You’re a bit stuck i’m afraid. With your complaint points, whilst NR might have insisted on you taking it, you can’t use that as a point of missale with a 3rd party company. They’re not liable for NR’s insistence. You approached them, they made the sale in good faith. End of story.

Making a complaint on those grounds will be [justifiably] laughed off. I’d save yourself the bother and forget about it. You’ll be happier in the long run

    it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
    their - 'owned by them'
    they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)

You were free to refuse the loan and go elsewhere and find someone willing to loan you the money without the condition to have PPI cover. You chose not to do so.

Fair enough, just thought I'd ask, it was worth a shot. Certainly won't be loosing any sleep over it!

I went with Northern Rock, purely because they were offering the lowest interest rate by far, so didn't want to look elsewhere.
