Visa secure+debit cards?

I have tried to buy online with my Barclaycard but that little window inviting me to register for Visa secure appeared again. Last time, I had he choice to "activate later", then it would let me through to the last page of the order process (order confirmation).
This time, I didn't have that option, it was " or you register, or no order!

Well, I was surprised to see that they are now registering Visa Debit Cards as well?
I had that window coming up on the Tesco Website today, I have chosen this time to activate later, but my guess is that it will do the same thing as with my Barclaycard, and I will be forced to use Visa secure with my Debit Card.
Strange how it comes after the HMRC fiasco. A hint of panic?

same thing has happened to me on the littlewoods website, i have a dd set up for the min payment but normally pay a little bit more using my debit card thru their site but now not getting the option to activate later and its a pain in the bum

I suppose with all those bank details gone awol, a lot of retailers will be registering for it and a lot of card issuers (and Visa) will be implementing Visa secure and Mastercard Secure Codes, like that if something goes wrong they will shift the liability onto you, the consumer.
The more they try to improve the security for their benefit, the less secure it feels for you.
