bank not taking charges

I have had a current account with perks for years from before they started charging for it and have never been charged the fee. In the past I have called AA using it and once took out travel insurance for my husband ( mine was an automatic part of it) we have never otherwise used it except to call out the AA. I always assumed this was a perk for a loyal customer. I now see that the insurance policy is dependent on paying the monthly charge. I am happy to pay it as it is good value, but I am worried that if I offer to do so they will want me to pay the charges from way back.
