Old Style Daily Thursday 22nd August

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's too dark to see what the weather is doing at the moment but it is quite warm already. I woke up at 4.30 so actually had a bit of a lie in today :rotfl:

It's a big day here as it's GCSE results day and Lee needs to find out if he has the qualification that will let him start his catering course next month. He is quietly confident so I really hope he is right. In other news, Lilly got the job so thanks for all the finger crossing and positive thoughts. Mind you, I didn't think it was possible for her to be any grumpier but when she got home last night she had had enough of being nice to people so I had it off her with both barrels. Ho hum, I am sure she will grow up soon and become a reasonable human being :)

We have shopping coming but not till late tonight so we are still having interesting combinations for meals. Tonight we have chicken, peppers and courgettes to use up so it will be some sort of Mediterranean dish. I will get my cookbooks out later and see what we can have. I was an angel yesterday as Phoebe asked for a Chinese takeaway last night and I didn't have any :D:D I feel I have turned a corner with dieting and I just want to get healthier now more than eating fast food.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to and the best of luck to all the kids picking up their results today. Take care xx

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread Dumpling.

Today I'm going to the dentist and the root of my absent tooth will be removed. I'll have a temporary one-tooth denture and this will give me time to decide what I want to do - continue with a denture have a bridge or an implant. I'll be back to dentist anyway next month as I've 3 more crowns to be done. Not massively looking forward to today.

In other news, I was unaccountably tired yesterday so had a pretty lazy day and went to bed very early, slept better and feel improved for that. I wasn't entirely idle, I did sone weeding, made a bear and part of a baby cardigan.

It is so much darker in the early mornings now and it seems to have happened very quickly. I love the long warm days though many of my friends prefer autumn and winter.

When it does get cold, I'll be in trouble, I've totally forgotten what I've done with my winter clothes though I'm sure they will turn up. I've got my decent stuff for going out or working, it is the everyday slumming it things that have hidden themselves away.

I hope everyone has as good a day as possible, still thinking of our missing friends.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone

dumpling - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy but dry start to the day, hoping to get more washing line dried.

DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was fish, chips, beans/veg - my fish was baked and I had veg with mine. I remembered to get the beef out to defrost overnight - tonight we'll be having beef stew, dumplings, mash and veg - trust me to plan a more hearty meal when it's turned warmer again! Never mind - it is what it is.

Today will be my normal day of getting stuff done, I have my list so lots to do. I'll just get on with it and do it at my own pace.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all.

Dumpling - my fingers are crossed for Lee this morning. And well done on the positive mood too.

AOD - I hope all goes well at the dentist today.

I've forced myself into a state of complete wakefulness as I'm having a delivery between 7 - 10am from Argos. Won't be 7am as no text has arrived yet. Yesterday DM stood on the bathroom scales which showed even more weight loss, down to 7st 2lb, that despite her eating so much more over the last two weeks. I'm hoping that the scales are malfunctioning so ordered a new set.

After that the cleaner is coming. I count the weeks by her visits on Thursdays and pill box filling on Sundays.

The fridge is stuffed with food. If the forecast is correct there's going to be a swathe of torrential rain blowing through. Once it's gone I'll get our for a while.

For now my thoughts are with all those struggling. Happy Thursday to everyone.

    Morning All

Lovely out this morning but there's a storm coming! The wood for the decking has arrived but not much work has been done yet, I think the rain put them off. The only thing of note is the front gates are broken, apparently the delivery truck drove into them. Chap says he will get them fixed - one step forward, two back!

Went to DDs after work to help her partner take a big dressing table downstairs, into the car and upstairs in my house. DD had taken it from here when she moved out and it's far too big for their house and they've suddenly realised they need the space! Anyway, I'm happy to have it back as it was painted for the room and just fits in the space below the window.

Good luck Lee. Great to see you so positive dumpling.
Hope the dentist goes ok today AOD.
Gosh, you were busy yesterday Nanny!
Did you get your monitor Speky?
Hope your new scales show a weight gain Gers.

Right, off for another day at the madhouse! Take care. XX

Running really late today so will just leave some hugs for anyone that wants one, hope you are all well xx
  • Morning folks and thanks for the early start DUMPLING. Fingers crossed for Lee's results. Mizzly rain here but forecast to move on. I'm another who hates the thought of Autumn and Winter and find these darker mornings and evenings depressing.

We had a good day out at Tropical World yesterday and saw all sorts of unusual animals/fish/creatures but it was so overpoweringly hot, as it has to be to keep them all in the environment they need to survive. As always the meerkats were the biggest attraction, they are so cute. I quickly scuttled passed the tarantulas ugh!!

Did a bit of shopping on the way home and then fed everybody. The DGDs stayed here as DD is back at work again today, We spent a stressful evening cutting out the fabric for the new replacement'van sun loungers, ready for me to sew up today. I must invest in a new pair of dressmaking scissors as mine are now next to useless for cutting heavyweight fabric, I've had them more years than I care to remember.

The girls are still asleep so creeping around quietly. As well as "helping" me with making the new covers today they also want to help me make the Bolognese Bake as, apparently, nobody else can make one as good as mine and they want to know my secret!

I'll now read back on yesterday's thread as I never got back on after posting and I like to keep abreast of everyone's news! Have a lovely day today if you can and ((HUGS)) for all who need them. Take care all and sorry for waffling on so much xx

  • Hey everyone,

Good luck to all those with loved ones getting GCSE results. My DD2 is a bag of nerves bless her :)

Last night I failed on the steak and salad front and we ended up going out for a lovely meal at a local Italian and a couple of bottles of wine - feeling bit fuzzy this morning!! Really lovely to be able to have a date night, support a local business and walk home chatting. Today I have taken the day off to spend with DD2. We are going to get her results, take them to college and then go and grab her a couple of clothes items for college. Can't believe she starts in just 2 weeks!! No motivation to cook anything atm :/ Need to meal plan really and stick to it. I haven't found any meal plan threads yet but am presuming there must be one somewhere? So today I think just keep it simple and do eggs for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and bolognaise for tea.

Hope everyone has a great day whatever you're up to :)

  • Good morning, it's raining here, it was forecast though.

Dumpling, hope Lee gets the results he needs.

Hope dentist visit goes ok AOD.

I wasn't out at all yesterday, just did house stuff a,d tackled the dreaded ironing pile. I did most of it, until my back started to hurt, by then it was 5 o' clock, so I turned the iron off, enough I thought. It'll get done today and I want to finish those curtain linings. When they are done I think I'll give them a minimum wash as they've been in my cupboard for a while.

DD and family went to their caravan last night, they won't be back till next week. The forecast is good for the bank holiday weekend so it'll be nice for them. Though they've taken their carpet cleaner, they are going to do the van carpets. We are going to borrow it next week.

I don't know what Ds and family have got planned. We'll probably go out somewhere on Monday.

Anyway, never mind Monday, we've got a few days before then !!

I was toying with the idea of asking a couple of friends if this can be the last year we buy at Christmas for each other, just exchange a nice card. I won't ask for this year because they both shop ridiculously early for Christmas, and one of them already has presents wrapped!

I'll still buy for my closest friends but that's getting difficult - we are all getting on a bit and don't need /want things. I know I sound ungrateful, but I'm not really.
Sorry for talking about Christmas when we are still in August !!

Hope everyone has as good a day as they can

    Take care folks xx
