RBS have awarded a family member PPI of £1700. Their debt to RBS was being cleared through Westcott and the balance only £260. RBS have sent a statement showing the award of £1700 against the orginal debt of £2100 ? But the debt was paid through westcott ?
Who should she contact please ?

Sounds like the redress is being offset against the total of the original debt. Remember, amounts written off (interest etc) are still owed and so can be lawfully clawed back via a successful PPI complaint.0

So if the amount owed to RBS originally was £2100 and she has paid it all off ( aside from the £260 ) they are legally allowed to withhold the PPi award of £1700 ?0

If amounts (interest, late charges etc) were written off, these can indeed also be clawed back.0 -
The statement showed just £260 left owing so I think she will have to speak to RBS and perhaps Westcott who accepted all of her payments ?0

It is commonplace for part of the debt to be written off as part of an agreed settlement process.
e.g. the total debt may have been £5000 but they accepted repayments to recover £2100.
PPI redress is allowed to be set off against any debt reduced/written off as part of an agreed settlement.0 -
Thanks everyone 0

Bear in mind too that if ‘your relative’ has used a claims management company, they will have a £425 invoice en route, regardless of whether or not they see a penny of the redress from RBShelpful tips
