how to work out pence per mile?

The Government advisory rates for fuel alone are;
12p a mile for cars up to 1400cc
15p a mile for cars between 1400cc and 2000cc
22p a mile for cars over 2000cc
True cost to you obviously depends on the vehicle you drive though0 -

Just to add more complication to the calculation, whilst I agree the MoT won't change, the servicing and insurance may if they're mileage dependent.
But, as the OP hasn't actually told us the difference in their journey distance it's all moot.0 -
My average fuel (only) cost over almost 21k miles since October 2017 has been 12p per mile. (Lowest 10p, highest 13p)

0.22 is a good number for converting between Imperial gallon and litres. Easy to remember and accurate to as near as makes no difference.0
