buy car help- dealer changed agreed deal

hello,

i have just bought a car for my partner and they said once the money is in the back should be delivered by Friday and for £200 will be on a small transporter.

have been chasing them for 2 days to see if they have received the money and got this back.

this is me paraphrasing not the e mail.

director was on holiday so there has been a delay until next Tuesday 27th ( she needs it for work as sold her car in preparation)

£200 is now not enough to cover the transporter and someone will be driving it down instead ( only 200 miles but not the point)

do i stand anywhere on this? do i have an option or is it just grin and bare it or demand a refund?

thank you

Is it legitimate? A colleague of mine had exactly similar circumstances and the car never arrived. In fact, it was the classic scam where he'd paid up front to someone for a fictional car, the photos and particulars of which they'd recycled from Auto Trader. He lost almost £4k.

I'm concerned that you've paid upfront.

Have you actually seen the car or has this all been done online/ by telephone?

Was it a fantastically good price?

Is the company a well known one?

I hope I'm wrong but this all sounds like a scam to me.

its a dealership parkhills. due to it being far away we just bought off of online pictures. it was car finance so the bank sends it with out it touching our account and they did appear on their list of car dealers. wouldnt say fantastic price but average.

    Phew.

Anyway, to get back to your original question, it's up to you if you're prepared to have it delivered that way for the price you paid. If you're not, cancel the deal.

The other concern I would have is what happens if you have any problems with the car? You would have to return it to the dealer at your own cost. It's one of the pitfalls of buying from so far away and without having personally inspected and test driven it.

i'll be honest here, even if i inspected and test drove it i dont really know what i would be looking/listening for really. it has had a AA inspection if that helps? FSH next one due in early next year and fresh MOT on it.

sitting on 15K millage and 5 years old. just really annoyed me that we sent a load of money for them to just be like well we got the money just do what we want and go back on everything we have agreed to in e mails.

I find it staggering that someone will buy a used car from a dealer 200 miles away on nothing more than a few photos and a description - and no test drive. But I hope it works out OK for you.

15k in 5 years is a very underused car, which can cause all sorts of problems - I'd be looking very closely at what servicing has been done.

I agree. That's very low mileage in a long time, probably just pootling about locally. Check the mileage history because if it has only done 3,000 miles in each of the last two years it won't have been good for it. Hopefully it did 5,000 miles in three years and 10,000 in the last year!

If you can get out of the deal, I would, then find a better deal locally. There's no point risking getting into problems with it and having to faff about getting it back to the dealer for inspection or repair.

As above problems then how are you going to get the car back to that dealer .

If the goods didn't conform to contract, dealer would be liable.

If the goods did conform but something else had happened (wear & tear, damage) then the dealer wouldn't have liability for a remedy anyway, never mind damages. Well, unless they had specifically offered to be liable under the terms of the contract.

I agree but people do buy cars without physically seeing them.
