Credit card advice

Looking for some advice:

My partner has a 0% card with Lloyds. He got it about 2 years ago but has never used it and the 0% expires this month. Now we are thinking of renovating the kitchen and might need a credit card to pay for it. What would be the best thing to do? Should he just simply cancel his old card and apply for a new one? Will that affect his credit score? Should he just leave that card as it is and apply for another one? Can he even get another card if he has never used this one and this was his first ever card? Is there anything else we should think about?
