Elderly parents need full time care questions

Some elderly parents who have been living alone on state pension only and now due to a severe downturn in health for both of them need full time care.
If somebody were to leave their job to provide full time care for them both which benefits would the carers apply for?
Can the aged invalid parents claim anything themselves on top of pension for recent turn for the worst in their health?

It will totally depend on all of their circumstances. The parents could claim AA.Some elderly parents who have been living alone on state pension only and now due to a severe downturn in health for both of them need full time care.

If the parents apply for Attendance Allowance and at least one of them is awarded then carer an claim Carer’s Allowance provided they are not earning more than £123/week from employment.
Beyond this there are means tested benefits which may be available but, as poppy says, these depend on overall financial circumstances. For a pensioner couple you would look at Pension Credit. For working age claimant you would look at Universal Credit.
You could look at a benefit calculator such as https://www.entitledto.co.uk/ or go to a local advice agency.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -

Maximum PIP is worth more than maximum AA because it includes the mobility part which AA does not have but it’s not a choice anyone can make. DLA was the benefit that preceded PIP. No new claims for DLA can be made except for children under 16. For working age adults they have to claim PIP. For pension age adults they have to claim AA.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
