O/S Daily Wednesday 21 August 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Clear cool start to the day - sun starting to appear, dry underfoot. I have a wash load ready to peg out - got a full line dried yesterday - hopefully the same again today.

DH and DS1 now getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was roasted chicken thighs with either herbs or chicken seasoning on them and HM egg and veg fried rice. Tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato and beans/veg. I'll be having baked fish and veg.

Yesterday work was either really busy or dead - this seems to be the way it is at the moment. I'm working a full day today then Saturday morning but next week I have Monday off for Bank holiday, working Tuesday a short day then using a day from our time accrue system to take a day off on Wednesday - so only working 1 day next week.

Keep safe and well x

Thanks for starting us off nmlc. Your meals always sound fab.
Lovely morning here. Autumn is my favourite season and although we’re not there yet, I am enjoying the cooler mornings. We’re to get warmer weather again by the weekend.
Off into the shower in a minute then work. It’s been quite busy so time flies.
Easy tea for me tonight as DH is making it. Hurray!
Hope all have as good a day as poss x

Bright this morning but feels quite autumnal (I love that word!).

The sun was shining when I got home from work so I cleaned off the steps, I'm keeping them as they are when the deck is done, had a play with the power washer so that's looking a lot better. Decking stuff should be arriving today, hoping he can make a start too.

Work has been really busy but the day flies by, should be the same today.

Have a good day, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. The sun is trying to get out and once it does it's hat is forecast to stay on all day.

DD, me and the 3 DGDs are having a day out today. We are going to Tropical World in Roundhay Park, Leeds. I haven't been since I took eldest DGD when she was about 3 (12 years ago) and apparently it houses a lot more animals/creatures nowadays. I expect it to be busy being school holidays. We are taking a picnic lunch with us to save some pennies.

Yesterday turned out to be a very gluttonous day for me!! DD rang to ask if I would meet them all after my lunch meet with my friend. She had been spending a fortune on school uniforms and shoes for them and then wanted to look for some fabric to re-cover the loungers at the caravan and wanted my advice! My friend mentioned a fent 'n' fabric shop she said worth a look and we got a fantastic bargain there. John Lewis fabric for £3 a metre! Ask me why I think I will end up making the covers!

By the time we had finished they all declared they were "starving" and we ended up going to the carvery. Well I couldn't sit and watch them eat could I, so I succumbed to a couple of taster pots for my second lunch! Followed by their scrumptious lemon tart and raspberries. But in my defense I didn't eat anything else once I got home so that served as an early tea!

DUMPLING wow that's some weight loss. TAFF I was saddened to read your news and it took me back to this time last year when we were given similar news about my Bob. I was utterly devastated, especially as he had battled on for 5 years since the initial diagnosis. My thoughts and good wishes are with you all as I understand just how you must all be feeling. x

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them and the MIA. Take care all xx

    Morning all

Nice bright sunny day but a chill in the air this morning I can feel autumn peering round the corner too.

Saw the nurse yesterday and it was a complete waste of my time, I was in there for two mins at a stretch, she didn't look at my foot wouldn't listen when I was talking and told me to buy some insoles (which I already have) and then off I went, I got straight back to work and phoned and insisted of seeing a Dr and the only appointment they now have in Sept is the day before I go on holiday which is no good if I need an injection !! they are useless.
I have contacted a sports therapy massage woman who thinks she can help so I am going to book a session with her to see if it helps, tbh I would try anything now!!!

Got some mince out for dinner tonight so might do a spag bol seeing as its turning cooler in the evenings.

Dumpling thats a fantastic amount of weight to lose in one week !! well done you, keep up the good work xxx

Specky good luck with the heart monitor xx

Taff I am sorry to hear about your father xx

Mehefin hugs coming your way xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning, it's a lovely day here so far.

redruby, what a let down! Really, what are people supposed to do. I hope the sports therapy woman is some use.

Taff, so sorry to hear about your Dad.

TA, sounds as if you had a good day yesterday!!

Mehefin, good to hear from you.

Yesterday went as planned, it was ok.

Today it's the usual jobs, I want to go to the Metrocentre at some point in the next few days. TK M*xx have a good selection of throws and cushions and I would like to brighten our sitting room up a bit. It faces north, and though it has a big bay window it can be darkish as the days shorten. It's painted a warm cream which helps, but I fancy a few new things without spending a lot. We've got someone coming on Saturday to take the living flame gas fire in that room to bits and give it a good clean. It's the man who services our boiler, he was supposed to come a few Saturdays ago and forgot about us!!

We are going to ask DD if we can borrow their carpet cleaning machine for our downstairs rooms, she said it did wonders in their rooms, and they've got 2 children and a young dog, with all the associated mess.

Wmf, I'm not a lover of Autumn, I think it's a melancholy time, though we do still get some good weather, and we've had some nice holidays in early autumn.

Enough of my waffling, hope everyone has a good day, thinking of the sad and poorly.

    Take care folks xx

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off nmlc

I seem to have a new sleep pattern, go to bed, fall asleep straight away and then wake an hour later, and can't get back to sleep.

Looks a lovely day, so probably out for a coffee.

Taff my thoughts are with you

    Good morning all.

I was woken at an ungodly hour by my favourite cousin phoning me from Berlin which is an hour ahead! Lovely to talk to him and catch up on family news.

Having the compression bandage on all night certainly helped me to relax a bit. I'm now sitting wrapped in a towel hoping to drip dry before starting my day.

    Thoughts to all.

    Happy Wednesday too.
  • Good morning!
Everyone is always up so bright and early and I am always late! Nevermind, horses are all out now mucked out and ready for this evening. Greenhouse checked and watered, tomatoes may finally be turning. It's raining again but I could also smell the Autumn in the air this morning as I mucked out, it's also one of my favourite times of year :) Winter snuggling on the way!
Jam did NOT set, so it will be used in sponge puddings, and over ice-cream etc. it is not runny runny it is more of a sludgy goop.
Hope everyone has a good day sending hugs where needed x

Afternoon all! Well, shed has been broken into, electrician has been but suggested something that will prevent this happening again so now am waiting for WP to visit in the next couple of days. Garden has been hacked back and is in piles drying out a bit for next week's recycling collection. All jobs are jobbed.

Hoovering tomorrow, and a hunt in the shed for tile adhesive to put a couple of floor tiles back and have to get some petrol for the mower to finish the garden but not till next week.
Shower time now, just waiting for the water to heat up and then to the hospital.

TA, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bring up memories for you. I hope you have a good day, and some help with the cushion covers? :) camelot, I love playing with a power washer too, so satisfying to see clean coming out! Red , sorry ,i completely forgot to mention the sports massage, hurts, but I think it did me more good than the injections and the op. Hopefully, it will you too. Scarlet, hope you shop cheaply and well :) SO, is it worth trying until or valerian or something? Gers, glad that worked for you! DIMY, yep autumn definitely on the way, it's really quite chilly in the nights here now.
    Wotcha missings.
    Wobbly Wednesday!

Hi everyone, just been having a read back over the last couple of days. I had a lovely day out at Edinburgh with eldest DD yesterday....she treated me to my lunch as it's my birthday in a couple of weeks and we went round the shops. I bought some bits in Primark and reduced knickers in M and S. It was weird weather....sunny and warm. then absolutely pouring it down...tourists running everywhere! We did manage a sit in the gardens in the sunshine after our shopping. Then I got the train home and DD caught the airport bus. Then her flight back to Sweden was delayed by 4 hours, so she was not happy. She ended up getting home about half past 3 this morning and had to get a taxi as it was too early for a train.
I'll not see her now until Christmas. There was major drama yesterday when the zip broke on her case....she had bought lots of cereal bars and snacky bits in Home Bargains as they are so expensive in Sweden and then decided that her purple fur coat she'd left here would fit....the zip came away, lots of screaming, but we managed to fix it....with the fur coat in!
Youngest DD took little grand daughter to a play session at the local childrens centre on Monday....it was almost finished and she had loved it - then she managed to pull her feeding tube out! DD had to ring an ambulance to get them to hospital and spent the next 6 hours or so there - luckily they got it in the right place first time. It has taken DD ages to take her anywhere like that as she gets tired of all the questions, so it was really upsetting for her. I thought it might stop her taking her again, but she's gone to another one this afternoon , so that's good. DD doesn't mind so much when people ask her nicely if she was premature, but some people are so rude and just stare, or nudge their friend and say have you seen that baby with tape on her face, she must have something wrong with her! I couldn't believe it at first, but now we're unfortunately used to it.
Well I feel I should do something useful! Though I'm going out at 3 so it's not going to be much! I need some bits in town and then I've a doctor's appointment at 4. I've some washing outside so I'll bring that in and iron what needs done. Hope everyone has a good day
