Question about ESA letters/envelopes

Hi.I'm about to apply for income-based ESA, but I don't have a lot of privacy at home and am a bit paranoid about it. Could somebody tell me what kind of envelopes ESA letters (or Jobcentre letters in general) comes in? Are they plain, discreet envelopes or is it advertised all over the envelope? If it's advertised, would it specifically say "ESA" on it to give away the kind of benefit that I'm applying for? Thanks.

  • Brown envelope, obvious to anyone used to claiming benefits it's from the DWP but no indication of what benefit.

New claims for Income Related benefits are no longer possible unless you claim a severe disability premium, in an existing benefit. All areas are now a full Universal Credit area so it will be this you'll need to claim instead. You claim this online. https://www.gov.uk/apply-universal-credit

If you have worked and paid enough NI Contributions in the previous 2 tax years then you can claim New style ESA. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-style-employment-and-support-allowance
