DLA PIP AA Confusion ..

Hiya people i would appreciate some clarification as i am confused with the gov website !
With regard to people of state pension age.. previously under DLA you had Living and a Mobility components. I can see that Attendance Allowance effectively replaces DLA for Living, but there does not seem to be an equivalent for Mobility , has this element of Mobility benefit stopped ?
My Father receives high living rate of DLA ( and was born prior to 1948 so i guess will remain on DLA )
This was assessed upon his needs of having a stoma following bowel cancer, he now has restricted mobility due to arthritis ( has a blue badge ) and is currently battling Pancreatic Cancer. Under the old DLA system i think he may now be eligible for the mobility component but i can not see that there is any modern equivalent for this benefit.
Also my Mother born after 1948 has now been diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis and is not currently claiming any benefit. I believe she may also be eligible for Attendance Allowance, but under the old DLA system may have been eligible for both care and mobility.

You've never been able to claim for mobility issues developing after retirement age. If you've got a claim before retirement you can keep your mobility element but if your mobility problems come after then tough.0

I'm pretty sure you cannot claim the mobility component of DLA after the age of 65. There is no mobility component to AA so if your mum made a new claim for AA her mobility isn't assessed.0

People born before 8th April 1948 stay on DLA. If they receive the mobility componnt, that also continues, but cannot be claimed after pension age if it is not already being paid. People born after this date will be invited to claim PIP, which includes a mobility component. Usually, over 65s cannot claim the mobility component unless it is already being paid, but in the case of going from DLA to PIP, mobility is being awarded to over 65s who qualify.
AA is for new claims for people over age 65, and has never included the mobility component. It is expected that older people are likely to become less mobile as they age.0 -
Hope the poster doesn't mind me asking this on his/her thread, if a person receives mobility only on PIP does this disqualify them from claiming AA?
Thanks0 -
Note - all references to age 65 in previous posts should refer to ‘State Pension age’ which is 65 and several months.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

Thanks
They can apply to have their PIP award reviewed and if applicable a Daily Living element can be added.
You cannot get AA at the same time as PIP.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -
Thanks All.. That all makes sense.. i guess the Mobility is to assist with getting to work etc, so i can understand why it stops at state pension age..
Its just i can recall a family friends mother getting free car tax when she developed MS in her 70's so assumed she had applied and was getting the mobility part of DLA post state retirement age ( which was probably 60 for her ) . perhaps she was younger than i thought..0 -

I think it's more that the disability benefits are intended to help people who have greater difficulty than other people and as people get older they are more likely generally to develop mobility problems so it's more 'normal' in that age group to have them.
Obviously the idea that we all become the 'frail elderly' as we hit pension age is not correct but you have to draw the line somewhere.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0
