Moving into parents house...

Hi there everyone,

Needing a little bit of advice. Around the end of September my parents are moving out of their current house into a new build, and I will be moving into their old house to rent off them and then eventually buy.

Currently their internet and phone line are supplied via Plusnet, but I will be changing the services into my own name, whilst they take out their new services in their new house with new providers.

Can anyone advise on the best way to go about doing this? Basically Plusnet is redundant as neither I nor my parents want it. Do my parents need to cancel with Plusnet, and then I ring up and take out my own broadband as a new customer with a new company and hope that the cancellation and installation dates work out?

I know there is a switching service but as the current broadband is in my parents name and the new accounts will be in my name I don't see how this will work.

Any help is welcome!

Lou

    Easy

Your parents need to call PL and cancel the service, if there's still some months left there may be a fee to pay to end the contract early.

Once its cancelled you can take out your own contract.

If your wanting to go with Virgin for BB then no need to wait for your parents to cancel PL as Virgin use a different way to connect the properties to the VM network.

If the PN contract has a long time to run and hefty cancel contract charges ,it may be worth letting it run until end date .

If you are looking to take on a hefty package with lots of extras like TV etc, it's worth asking them if they will 'buy out' the existing contract.
