Rip Off

I had a bit of an escape of water from the kitchen taps which I didn't notice straightaway. The kitchen cupboard was a bit damaged and the laminate flooring was also damaged. My insurance company agreed to do the work and asked if I would like to use their own people or go down the route of getting quotes, etc. So I went with the easy option, and used their people. BIG MISTAKE
Two gents came for a couple of days, and did the work. I sourced the flooring, as the product they offered me was much inferior to my existing floor. I also paid an £350 excess, which covered the cost of the flooring. MY RENEWAL QUOTE HAS COME IN WITH A RISE OF APPROX 50%.
TURNS OUT, THESE CHARMING GENTS CHARGED JUST UNDER 4 GRAND FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS WORK.
LESSON LEARNT: Don't use your insurer's people, they think of a number, double it, and add a bit more. Then your premium goes up.

Not sure its a rip off, maybe overpriced but not all trades persons will be the same so no need for tarring with the same brush.0

Your premium may have gone up by the same amount if they'd only charged the insurance company £500 for the work. From an insurance perspective, £4,000 isn't a lot for a claim so I doubt it's the cost incurred that's increased it so much, more likely to be a combination of things including loss of some no claims discount.0

Can you change insurers for a better quote elsewhere?0
