Poor standard of work - large invoice!

Thank you for feedback. He is asking me for over £500 for bathroom rip (was tiled everywhere) and the boarding, plus £200 for materials. I estimate that he and his mate were here for no more than 5 hours. I understand I need to make a reasonable offer of payment but agree it's all going to need ripping out and replacing. It's difficult because person doing the work is a relative of my partner. It's causing a lot of arguments. Lesson learned!0

All the other problems aside shouldn't it be green plasterboard as a minimum in a bathroom?
What does your partner think of their relative's work?In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
He's trying to keep neutral but it's causing a big issue and I want to punch his face in! Green board? No idea! I all seems to get worse!0

Usual advise is cost of actual work done (which seems to mainly be the ripping out) minus cost of putting work right anything wrong.
Really you should give them a chance to put it right but that's very bad, I don't see how he would suddenly have the skill to do it.
I'd offer a couple of hundred for the ripping out. If the materials are plasterboard I wouldn't pay for that as it needs ripping out.
For the areas you are tilling have a look at the cement boards the other poster linked to, or you can get HardieBacker boards from Crown Tiles on eBay at a good price (last time I looked a couple of months back).
For areas that are going to be plastered I'm pretty sure you should use green plasterboard, which is moisture resistant. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
That is beyond atrocious. There is no intention to ever complete that work. How would tiles even be applied to such crap plasterboard?
Either they underquoted or they just go around ripping out stuff and then getting money without ever finishing jobs. Plasterboard isn't particularly expensive.0 -
It struck me today that maybe the new plasterboard sticks out so much because the tiles below haven't been removed at all. Did you actually see them all go in a skip?0

Atrocious work! Get a quote to put it right and take that off his bill.
Definitely don't pay him him until you get someone competent to assess the damage and the cost to put right!
To give you an idea of cost of the materials the plasterboard is about £5 for a sheet of 900mm x 1800mm and the pb adhesive is about £9 per 25kg bag.No longer trainee

I know some of them are but agree there's probably something lurking behind there. I don't think he's stripped back to the brick which also may explain why my bathroom is 6cm smaller!0 -
What due diligence did you do to end up with someone like that?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
