Thanks for that link Ed, it looks really Interesting.

I am an optimist, honest! But very pragmatic as well. I certainly dont think there is anything wrong with leading an average life, mine has been average and I'm giving it 8 out of 10 so far:rotfl:. I agree on the learning and I've just booked a helmsman course having bought a boat. Might be an idea to avoid the River Avon in the coming weeks if you value your life:p.

Just popping out to be sociable but I'll look at the first link tomorrow.

I don't read Bugslett's reply as pessimistic.....more stating a stark reality for the majority of us!
In terms of meaning, I like that fact that retirement gives us the freedom to chose how we spend our hours, rather than having to earn £££ to survive.
Mind you, I'm not quite there yet.....& I am sure the deeply meaningful things I do for my company will be sorely missed. For an hour or two at least....:rotfl:

So long! I'm not entirely sure I was out of the building:o

I always thought that leaving work would be a big problem,i do not have a lot of hobbies and worried that the lack of social contact with work mates and customers would be a big wrench. As it happens i wished i could of retired earlier as the days just fly by and i am not getting any younger!
We have enjoyed a lot of holidays,we only managed one main holiday a year as we both worked and our attitude is to spend our money on things that we enjoy rather than leave it to our only son ,ok he will get the house when we go and any money left if the goverment/care home dont get it first.
Also when a lot of people retire they say "well the garden will keep us busy " but they will soon find out that you cannot " do " the garden every day, especially in the winter/bad weather.
Life is short, enjoy it while you can and remember it does not matter how important you thought you were at work, when you leave it still goes on and you will soon be forgotten about.

    Your question was:

    What gives you meaningful existence?

In answer to that question, my answer is, doing enough to keep my dog's tail wagging.
Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop

I certainly find that time seems to go a bit quicker now I'm not working. At work the days were excruciatingly slow, and not just because I had an earlier start.
