Car insurance for young drivers

Hi. My daughter will be 17 years and 11 months at start of September and we have received a quote for £1030 for car insurance. She could wait for a month until she is 18 years old until taking out the insurance, but I am not sure if this will make a big difference to the insurance premium. I wonder if anyone has any advice. Thanks.

Seems a reasonable quote for a 17yo tbh.
You could do a dummy quote on a comparison site for an 18yo.......don't use her real details though.0 -
I did a quote a day before someone was 21 and then another quote the day after they were 21 and the premium increased.
I think the insurers have clicked that people wait and if its close you may end up paying more. If its many months later then worth a try but not for days.
Just get cover when you buy the right car. The premium is the premium. Wait until next year it maybe cheaper and then wait another year it maybe cheaper still.... How many years do you wait?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Brilliant price for a 17year old....
grab it while can , premiums do vary day-day and week-week .
Don't procrastinate and end up loosing it !0 -
There may be some hidden catches to this price.
I have just spent many hours looking at car insurance for my grand daughter.
Beware of 'black boxes' the small print is horrendous & has to be read very very carefully.
Some companies will not insure a car owned by a provisional licence holder, some will.
Premiums for a provisional licence holder will virtually double as soon a they have a full licence.
A few days difference can make maybe £70-£80 difference.
A minefield..............0 -
Having the same issue for my son at the moment. But having looked on comparison sites there also seems to be a huge increase if you choose to pay monthly as opposed to annually. i know having a young driver on your policy will increase but if you can't afford to pay for the insurance annually why does it increase so much. Having my son on a new policy starts at £650 but increases to £1000 ish just because you need to pay by monthly payments. Perhaps Martin needs to investigate this as it seems a complete rip off.0

Because its a loan at a fairly high percentage rate. Get a loan elsewhere to pay for it.
Too many people default on the payments i guess so they are not the best interest rates.
Same as getting a loan to buy a used car, why do you pay more than someone paying cash for it, car + interest - insurance + interest?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
The small print interest rate is around 29.99% on annual monthly payments.
Appalling really for the young drivers.0 -
But nobody forces them to pay by installments. They maybe able to get a loan at a lower interest rate instead.
A family member maybe able to get the loan for them at a lower rate.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Try changing the age on a comparison site, to see what difference it makes.
How often will she drive? If only once a week, Veygo might be cheaper.koru0 -
