What will happen to contribution based ESA upon returning to work

Hi All

Tried to search to find the answer to this but no joy sadly!

Hubby has been off work for 12 months 6 of those were spent seeing various health professionals and then 3 waiting for an operation on his spine. He is now coming out of 3 months of recovery and is due to return to work next month on a phased return. He has been claiming ESA (contribution based) since June to support our finances whilst he is off. My question is this:

He goes back to work 2nd Sept but his first pay is 10th Oct. Will ESA stop as soon as he returns to work or just before he gets his first pay? I have requested a payment holiday on our mortgage just incase! Just wanted to be sure as its stressing me out what we'll do for food etc!
