In regards to the warranty, as it is only 3 years old have you looked at how much it would be to get an extended warranty from the manufacturer rather than an aftermarket one?

    +1

If it has a proper manufacturers service history, with no gaps, a manufacturer extended warranty is the best you will get, but it still won't cover wear & tear or the DPF system.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

    Thanks for the replies.
No, we are not fixated on low mileage - it just happens to be the mileage on the car we are buying!
No idea if it’s only been used for short runs. Our annual mileage will also be relatively low.
    It’s diesel.

Please buy an electric or petrol car. A low mileage diesel is likely to give you a load of (expensive) trouble.

^ What they all said about the DPF...

    Wrong car for you.

Make and model please? Unless you are doing upwards of 12K per year, then you are buying the wrong car, wrong engine...and a futile warranty insurance.
A 3 year old diesel with only 8K on the clock is unlikely to do many, if any long runs at speed, and the possibility of DPF failure in the future is high.
These extended warranties are where garages make most of their profit. If you must buy one, buy it direct.
