Nationwide Wrongly Closed Account

The point is that the OP should not have had to do this (or suffer worry and embarrassment) if the clerk at Nationwide had not made a mistake.

Anybody can make a mistake but an apology and gesture of good will should be made and the error rectified with as little inconvenience as possible to the customer.

And this is why we don't have just the one account with all our money in, right?

What you need to do as a matter of urgency is get a new account opened and then pass on the sort code and account number of your new account to as many of your direct debit companies as you can

call them up and say you have changed your bank account details - this is the new bank account number from which to take the direct debit going forward

there's absolutely no reason why you shouldn't open your new account with Nationwide as every bank makes mistakes at some time during ones life. It might help if you had a flex account with them anyway when you come to arguing about reinstating the free travel insurance which obviously is not available to new accounts

it is a separate thing as to what compensation is due to you. A couple of years ago got a £150
from them for something fairly minor

I have a number of accounts but all my "household" direct debts go from one of them. Certain other SO/DD payments also go from that account.

If the bank messed up on it and caused me inconvenience, I'd certainly be expecting an apology and rectification of the error.

Have you opened up another bank account yet?

I also fail to see why £13 a month just for travel insurance is a good idea? I have multi trip worldwide travel insurance that costs £35 a year.

Your payroll payment will bounce back to your company immediately. You then ask them to remake the payment on a same day faster payment to your new bank account.

From the OP original post about upgrading I am assuming that the account they originally had was an ordinary flex account with the free travel insurance now no longer available hence the annoyance at it being closed

if it was the flex plus £13 a month account that would not make sense as it cannot be upgraded
