in Phones & TV
VirginMedia have increased my package price yet again and I've had enough. I have already cancelled with them, giving a 30 day notice. I was on a broadband, TV and phone package with VM.
Broadband is the real must have for me and I should be able to find a decent broadband package ... so that's all fine. I was hoping I would be able to somehow get the live TV channels as well. I live in a top floor flat, have not got a sattellite dish or arials so I think internet is the best option (I would want to avoid indoor arials if possible).
I have a smart TV with HDMI, I don't think the TV has WiFi though. I have a few old laptops gathering dust so if there is any possibility of using them then I can do that (Kodi? or something else) or it wouldn't be the end of the world if I have to buy a separate device with one-off cost. I also have Amazon Prime membership if that helps somehow (I am not sure if you can watch live TV on Prime).
So what are my options to watch the live TV using internet?

Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.
Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard.
Being in debt is hard. Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard.
Communication is hard. Not communicating is hard. Choose your hard.
Life will never be easy. It will always be hard. But you can choose your hard.

Options are many from I Player etc.
illegal options are not discussed on the forum .
Kodi itself has no live content .
Depends upon what channels you actually want .
My first thought would be to look at Now TV box.0 -

Thanks guys. I have had a slight change of heart. While searching online for TV over internet I came across the TV licensing article on MSE.

It made me realise that I don't really need the live TV. It is only really used by the kids for recording CBBC and watching later. I already have Amazon Prime, we might have to change a few habits but I think a fire stick will just do the trick.
Many thanks for your replies I think I will cancel the TV license and go down the fire stick route.Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard.

OP be aware that watching any BBC iPlayer programmes (inc CBBC ones) will need a valid TV licence.
You may find it difficult to control the little one's habits/needs unless you can block all the appropriate sites with a clever router in your home?0 -

If you have a Smart TV then it will have Wi-fi (that is one of the criteria for being classified as being Smart). It will also normally have, or you will be able to download, the apps that will allow you to watch the normal terrestrial channels (via their apps).
Depending on your TV make there should also be a number of other apps available too. These will will normally include Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc, although a subscription will need to be paid for these.
If you do not have a Smart TV but have Wi-fi then other options are a Now TV stick or box, Firestick, Google Chromecast, etc. You can see all of these in the large Supermarkets such as Tesco.0 -

To do that, you will still need a TV licence."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
