Honeywell Lyric T6R or Nest Learning thermostat?

Hi, just looking for opinions on either of these. I'm having a new boiler installed and my plumber has recommended a wireless thermostat that uses OpenTherm. I am potentially looking to have the property as a residential or holiday let.

I have spoken to Honeywell re: ease of switching the Lyric TR6 for use by each new tenant (i.e. hooking it up to their phone/WiFi connection) if residential and they assure me it's quite straightforward. Obviously, if holiday, I solely would have control (this will be useful as it will save me from, for example, having to visit the property just to up the temperature during a cold snap when it is empty).

Any opinions greatly appreciated.

Mechanical, or at least a wired thermostat for me. Radio systems eventually drift off-tune and no longer work.
  • We have a property in the US which has a Honeywell wireless lyric system installed. I would estimate it has only worked remotely 4/5% of the time it’s been installed. From the outset we had issues - every excuse possible from our wireless router being too old to it being too powerful (once we replaced it) to the signal being the wrong kind.

Thankfully there is also a manual option on the thermostat which we use however I couldn’t recommend Honeywell lyric as a remote access option. Most of our neighbours have found the same, sadly we didn’t speak to them before we installed it.

We have Nest fitted and its very good, we dont use the smart learning features, just remote access and scheduling, but always been solid. We have their cameras and smoke alarms too and like how it all fits together with other home automation stuff so can build into harmony flows for example.

Just noticed this is for a rental...

My tenants have trouble understanding key meters. I certainly wouldn't put in wifi thermostats for them, unless I liked visiting every week. :)

Nest but set a code so only you can use it remotely then if your tenants leave it on all night or when they leave you can turn it down/off
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
