Manchester metrolink contactless

Contactless just been introduced on Manchester's metrolink. Used it for first time on journey from Bury to Manchester return. Tapped in and out as required. There is a cap on daily fare of £4.80 i think. Was travelling with OH who did same and had been charged correct amount.

So I've been charged £14! With no receipts/tickets I have no evidence or proof. I don't even know where the amount of £14 has come from. I've messaged them but had no reply as yet. Feel like I've been robbed.

£14 is two 1 day antime all zones travelcards. Probably either you used the wrong card to tap out or you accidentally tapped in or out or both with a second card at the same time.

Sounds right to me, the cap is £7 if you're travelling at peak time.

EDIT: Actually if your husband was charged correctly and you were charged 2 x £7 then no, that sound wrong.

As I was travelling off peak both directions then if anything I should have been charged the off peak prices which is £4.80 so x 2 = £9.60 if I accidently "mistapped". Was definitely using only the one card.

Obv I should be telling them all this but difficult getting in touch with them. No reply as yet.

I don't think that mistapping can result in a £7 charge, because it would charge single tickets, not a 1-day travelcard rate.

What day/time did you tap in for each journey?

Were you using contactless on your phone or via the card, or both?

You are making the rather courageous assumption that there isn't a fault with Metrolink's shiny new contactless ticketing scheme.

No, I'm pretty sure that having taken five years since London launched contactless payments, they will have used the time to refine and enhance the offering, implementing a robust and basically flawless system, with a very low chance of incorrect pricing being applied, and full transparency for the consumer so there is no doubt as to why they have been charged what they have :rotfl:
