O/S Daily Monday 19th August 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Welcome to any newbies - we're a friendly crowd x

Light cloud to start the day here, and air feels a bit cool, but it's dry underfoot.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Lunch yesterday was a late one but was steak and ale pies, chips, peas and gravy for the menfolk. I had fishcakes and caponata - which I threw together as everything else was cooking, delicious it was too. Some of the veg was getting a bit bendy so was able to utilise it and not throw it away. I remembered to get the sausages out to defrost - so tonight we're having egg, bacon, sausages, black pudding, hash browns, beans and mushrooms.

Back to work today, I'm working Saturday morning too, but then only working Tuesday and have the day off on Wednesday, and will be off on Monday as it's Bank Holiday - can't believe we're nearly in September already.

Keep safe and well x

Hi everyone, It seems ages since I posted because we were at the Yorkshire house and had left my laptop at home. I find posting on my phone so laborious I decided after the first time just to rad and not post.

Congratulations to your grandson Jackie, and to Steve dumpling, what good news.

I hope all the poorlies are as well as can be expected and the carers likewise.

We had a gorgeous stay in Cartmel and 15 course tasting meal at L'Enclume courtesy of the kids and Steve's sister as an anniversary present. The week was such a mixture of nice days and horrible ones. Ziggy didn't get a walk at all on Friday the weather was so awful. Mind you we had done 6 miles at the coast on Thursday so she wasn't too deprived.

We've almost decided to turn the Yorkshire house into a holiday let. We had a rep from a letting company round and he was telling us what we needed to do to bring it up to scratch. I think it's a bit too quirky for his tastes but we shall do some of the things he said and maybe try it for a year or two. We'll be able to go up ourselves still but it won't be left empty for too long. This year has been quite difficult trying to get up there while Steve has been having his treatment.

Laura and Brian fly back from Spain today into Luton so I'm going to suggest we pick them up and take them home to save them battling through London at rush hour. Steve's sister is leaving us to go to relatives on the south coast this morning so we'll be just the two of us again, especially if Ziggy goes back to Laura's.

    Morning all

Sunny here today but with an autumnal nip in the air, I woke in the night cold as I must have kicked the duvet off took me a while to warm back up.

Bak to work today but only 20 more working days till out holiday so the countdown is on !!

Jacket spud for dinner tonight with ham, salad etc nice and easy after a hard day which I am sure today will be, 5 clients today including noisy chap and noisy lass, I am sure they try to out noise each other !!

Need to have a sweep through tonight and put some washing away.

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting us off. A bit cloudy here, with snippets of blue sky, and a bit of sun is forecast too before our daily ration of rain arrives later!!

DD is back at work early shift today so the 3 DGDs all arrived to sleep last night and will be here all day. DD brought today's lunch with them - pork chops from the defrosting freezers! She says they are all eating the most bizarre concoctions to save throwing anything away. Plus donating stuff to their neighbour! She is still not happy! Chops for lunch it is then, but yet to decide what we will be having with them.

They brought me a present from their holiday too - a bottle of Mermaid Gin from the Isle of Wight Distillery. I look forward to sampling that!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. A wave to absent friends (nice to have NAN back with us yesterday but OL, NELS and HH we are all missing you too) Take care all xx

    Morning all.

I woke early with the same ankle injury from weeks ago, it's just bizarre that I seem to sprain my ankle in bed overnight. At 6.00am I took a mega anti-inflammatory and paracetamol so can just about hobble more 'easily'. Am showered and dressed already, just in case the pain worsens. Once I'm more able this time I will go to docs / minor injury clinic.

My plans for today will probably have to be changed now, doubt I can walk very far or drive to the dental lab.

The fridge is full apart from eggs which I forgot to buy on Saturday. Last night I cooked some chorizo sausages for DM, I really didn't like them. The texture was too coarse and I found them slightly bland. All the more for DM.

WB snoozer and nan - lovely to hear from you.

TA - I wonder if your gin would be the best medicine for my pain??:rotfl:

Thoughts with those struggling and a happy Monday to all.

    Morning All

It was raining when I got up but seems to be brightening up now. The washing is on the rack, may have to finish it off in the TD later.

I didn't do much yesterday, put up a picture I had framed and picked some sweet peas, the rest of the day was spent organising food for the week and tidying up, bathrooms both got a good clean.

The children start school today, the new little ones are in for a full day from the start, could be fun! Lots to do so I'll go in a bit earlier.

Have happy Mondays, take care. XX

Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.

Just saw your post Gers, hope you are more comfortable soon.

Heavy rain here but it has just stopped. I've got the bottoms of my pjs wet and a bit mucky from trundling down the garden to feed the wildlife. My own fault for forgetting to turn them over at the waist.

Nothing special planned for today, husband is going for an eye test, I might go with him and pop to the shops while he's there. I need a birthday card for a friend and an anniversary card for husband. I've already got a gift for friend, would like to get a little something for husband to mark the day but he's an awful person to buy things for. And it is his birthday in 3 weeks, another episode of brain-wracking.

As I've written this the rain has started again and there are two magpies and a pigeon all fighting for the bird food. They have scared off the small rat.

Fortunately I raked up leaves yesterday, it needed doing and it is not much fun in the rain.

Will now go and further about aimlessly.

Hope everyone has a good day and if our absent friends are reading along, you are missed.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning, it's fine here, hope it's like yesterday, sunny and windy.

Queer how your ankle injury recurred overnight Gers, hope you get it sorted.

Back in the old routine Camelot.

Hi TA, guard your gin with your life, Gers is after it. Glad your girls are back safe and sound.

Snoozer, I don't post on my phone much,I know what you mean. Your 15 course tasting meal sounds yum.

I wasn't out yesterday, continued with my washing, Thankfully I got it all dry. Of course the ironing is building up now, I'm always nattering on about the ironing.
DH went to the caravan and took some clean stuff back, ready for our next jaunt.

We are getting our hair done today, and I might go to the shops when I remember what I want. I'm going to line some curtains as well. I bought some new curtains in the Dun*lm sale, and they have a bonded thermal lining, but I'm going to line them as well with the cotton linings from our old sitting room curtains. I cut them out before I got rid of the old curtains, they are still in good nick. The room faces north and can get chilly in winter even with a double glazed window..

I saw Christmas (sorry) cards in the charity shops on Saturday!!

Hope everyone has good days anyway.

    Take care folks xx
  • Morning!
Busy here so far, horses mucked out and now in the field. Greenhouse watered tomatoes still green. Will pick runner beans later and probably freeze. Washing on and a load just about to go on the line but wait now it's raining! Bread in the breadmaker and blackberries from the field this morning in the microwave ready to start making jam.
Some days I feel like i'm catching my tail and going nowhere :)

    Morning all,

DD4 and family were here for dinner yesterday, they had been in Cork for a week, was lovely to see them, but they are lively!

Cooler here today, although the sun is coming out just now.......really must go for a short walk today, my right hip is acting up so I need to exercise.

Gers, I have found that ankle injuries never really clear up, and recur at the most inconvenient times......sorry to be a Jobs comforter!

Have just realised that I missed my younger great nephew's birthday on 8th......will need to grovel later.as my brother just has 2 grandsons and I like to keep in touch.

Have the best day you can have..

Had a leisurely drive back yesterday , got here in time for visiting last night, another bad night I think.

Weather is raining then sunny then raining then sunny, you get the idea...Got annoyed with length of hair yesterday and no time to visit a hairdresser so I attacked it with OHs hair clippers and now look like a hedgehog according to my sister. That was the most complimentary thing she said. Too wet to continue the strimming today or breaking into the shed so am removing the cuffs from fathers nightshirt because he said they're too tight. He has bed sores now, despite the inflatable mattress because he doesn't move off his back unless they turn him on his side at night and then he turns back over because he can't sleep on his side. Just one more thing...

TA, it's not just Gers after your gin! :) I've got a bottle of pink gin at both houses and they are slowly going down....Gers, it never rains etc etc...my sister buys this blue stretchy bandage from Home Bargains and straps it up, might help. snoozer, that sounds absolutely fabulous! Rosy, let the countdown commence! I'm thinking thunderbirds countdown :) AOD, hope the brambles are out now...and the blackberries are nice? SR, good idea 're the curtains. I had some from Freecycle that I have yet to get round to dyeing and sewing. Better hurry up, winter is coming judging by the weather lately. Happy hair do!
