PPI claim without documents and account numbers

So here's my journey so far..

I'm 100% sure i had a loan which i was misold ppi.

I'm pretty sure (have no recollection of being with any other banks) it was with Yorkshire Bank as they were the nearest to me at the time and when that branch closed i went with Lloyds Tsb who were the next bank nearest to me.

I was with Yorkshire Bank up until 1992 and then joined Lloyds Tsb, so i would say it would have been between 1989 and 1992 when i took the loan out.

Lloyds (now without Tsb) who I'm still with have no record of me ever having any loans with them and Yorkshire Bank have no record of my name, address, dob in their archives, and as i had no reason to keep any of my documents because i was changing banks, they're saying unless i find a sort code and account number or even paper work showing i had a loan or an account with them, they can't help any further in checking whether i had a loan and ppi to be able to claim.

I have a gut feeling I'm being fobed off cause it's been so long and they're calling my bluff hoping that I won't find any documents, but if i do find any documents (which I've searched high and low for and found nothing so far) some thing tells me that miraculously they'll find me in their archive after I've given them the Info they need. Then and only then i can proceed with my claim.
And the Ombudsman couldn't help.

Now until that happens is there any other way i can find out with whom i had a loan with if on the off chance it wasn't with Yorkshire Bank?

This is my last throw of the dice.

Thanks, pete

Your gut feeling is incorrect. There is no off-fobbery taking place.

If neither you nor they have any evidence of you having PPI, then you have nothing to make a complaint about.

You're the only one would could still have records dating back that far, so if you've destroyed yours, there's nothing more to do.

Yes, give them the information (account number etc) which they require and "miraculously" they may be able to locate this phantom loan from three decades ago.

No can magic records that don't exist. The FSA recommend keeping records for six years or as long as necessary. In your case, thirty years on, it seems they have been destroyed.

Your comp!ain't is over and you have no chance of getting any SAR into back at this late date.

Which do you think it more important to them?
Complying with the data protection act or deciding to pick you out at random to lie to you?

Its no wonder Yorkshire bank have nothing. 27 years ago and you being a non-customer.
  • Hi All,
Early 80's + Mid 90's had two possible PPI on HP repayment agreements ? Both companies no longer trading, Dixons taken over by Currys, also a local Ford dealer closed down renamed and relocated in the town.

How do I go about finding info whether or not I had PPI ? I have been with the same bank since those times so do I just contact them and ask the same as above or is there another channel ?

I have tried looking for an answer on the web site to no avail, I even contacted directly but the answer I received was to join the forum and ask, so here I am any help would be greatly appreciated.

You give up on the car dealer as they were not regulated until Jan 2005.

Santander have responsibility for Dixons. However, records may be non-existent given the timescale.
  • Hi All,
SonOf - Many thanks for the info.

As hundreds of thousands of people have tried it on (sorry put in a missale complaint) IMO it will take months to sort everybody out if not a year or more.
