DLA Home Visit

I manage my sons financial affairs, he’s had DLA since he was 6 and is now an adult. He doesn’t want me to claim for the new PIP so his DLA ended last month.
I’ve had a letter from DWP saying they’re going to visit and to have several types of ID.
Has anyone had one of these visits before and what should I expect?

  • Two questions, has he now applied for PIP and what types of ID have they asked for?

No he’s not applying for PIP and they’re asking for 2 documents - one from an Essential documents list (eg passport, driving licence) and one from a Supporting documents list (eg birth cert, wage slip, council tax letter)

Sounds like it is just a formality. Whoever is visiting needs to know the person they are visiting is the person they should be visiting (Data Protection).

Have they said what the purpose of the visit is? It may be, but I do not know, that the lack of a PIP application has triggered so sort of Duty of Care at DWP and they need to be sure about the decision (or lack of)
Unlike some here, I am not omniscient. If I am wrong correct me. I won't take offence.

Ok that makes sense, maybe he should call them to confirm that he doesn’t want to claim PIP ?
  • Is there a reason why he doesn’t want to claim PIP?

Plus he now has a job which is a change I haven’t told them about - Could this be a visit to discuss this?

Is he claiming any other benefits?
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

Best thing to do is ring the number on the letter and ask what it's about. We can only guess here.
