I bought this for my son's 4th birthday last year (unfortunately at full price) and yes it isn't that sturdy but my son loves it and plays with it regularly, he often plays with it and the action figures for a couple of hours at a time recreating whole episodes and also inventing his own.

I have sellotaped the cardboard part as it kept coming off but I haven't glued the rest of it and it sits on his desk most of the time or sometimes on the floor and it stands up to his vigorous play quite well.

I agree with Pulliptears that you shouldn't be cynical adults and not buy a toy that would be adored by your child just because you think it isn't that robust or it will make too much mess.

I have made a decision that I will not refuse to get gifts for my son because I think it will fall apart or make a mess (dependent on price of course;)) because the pleasure he will get out of it will be worth it. Also I will always remember the few gifts I didn't receive or was not allowed to play with often because of these reasons on my parents part.
Children are young and innocent for such a short time I want to make the most of his childhood.
