Sky hd contract- want to move to sky q

Hi, could someone give me some advice please. I’m just coming to the end of my deal with them- I had 50% off for 12 months as I was moving to Virgin but they offered me such a good deal I couldn’t argue.
I’m trying to look at the best options for staying with sky but moving to sky Q- I have an offer on my email for £20 for a 2tb sky q box but when I called to negotiate the sky tv package price, I was told that the most they could take off my package bill was 10% because I am using the sky Q offer.
Does anyone have experience of this? If I take out another Sky HD package for 18 months, they’ll offer me 40% off, then I was going to ring back to ask for the sky Q box using the offer.
I’m thinking that as I’m in a new contract, I might just have to pay for the box and my package prices will stay the same as it’s in contract.
Does this seem possible or will they cancel my contract as it’s moving to Q instead?
Thanks in advance

I have been on sky+ for years. They offer sky Q every time we need a recontract.
I got offered
£36/month for Entertainment, kids, sports. If I wanted sky Q same monthly fee plus £20 installation fee. Haven't decided what to do yet0 -

If you move to Sky Q ,your "renegotiating" power is reduced - the equipment has to be returned if you cancel AND the LNB on the dish is not compatible with the "old" Sky HD+ box, so you can't return to Freesat from Sky - or at least without spending money on a new LNB.0 -

No it's not, you can ask for the old LNB when they take it off or just buy a new one on Amazon for very little. As long as the dish is easily accessible, it's simple enough to swap them.
Sky HD boxes are available for a tenner although if you're going the Freesat route it's probably worth investing in a Freesat recorder. It's not something I've looked at but they should be compatible with Q LNB's, if not now then shortly.0 -

There are two types of LNB that can get installed with SkyQ - one type can work with anything (including Sky Q IIRC) and the other only works with SkyQ. As you might expect SkyQ installers will almost certainly use the SkyQ only one, unless you feed them enough tea and biscuits during installation to convince them otherwise.0 -

The ones that work with both are called hybrids and are also available through Amazon and others although they cost a bit more. There's nothing stopping Humax making a Freesat box that's compatible with Sky Q boxes (and possibly either LNB on the 1 box) as far as I'm aware of.0 -

Humax have dropped out of Freesat box manufacture.
A company called Arris (ex Pace) was supposed to be releasing a Generation 3 Freesat box this autumn which may or may not support Sky Q type LNB's who knows, but all has gone quite on this.

Accessibility is a real issue for many people tho' - my dish is on a mast about 25' from the ground - with my current set up of an HD+ box, don't have to worry about switching LNBs in the event of not getting a deal.
Furthermore, I've been told that Q installers have been instructed not to fit the hybrid LNBs unless the customer has a second box which they want to keep as Freesat viewing device - assume that you would have to "bribe" the fitter to get one if you only have one set of feeds!!0
