Ikea Pax wardrobes - fix to wall with Billy-style L-bracket?

Really stupid question alert... Our Pax wardrobes will be sitting out from the wall as they'll be in front of a skirting board. We won't be able to use the supplied brackets/wall-fixings which go inside the wardrobe. Our Billy bookcases fix to the wall with L-brackets on the top of the units, which could be positioned over the gap at the back. Won't the same type of brackets work for a wardrobe? I'm guessing I can get them from hardware shops.
I'm trying to work out whey Ikea have designed the wall fixings the way they have. Is it simply because a lot of people buy the taller units that go up to the ceiling, so there wouldn't be room to get in at the top and fix from there?

Why not cut out the piece of skirting where you plan to put it and use the supplied fixings. You can always keep the bit should you change things around at a later date.0

It is quite easy to cut a piece off the bottom of the wardrobe to allow it to sit against the wall. It can be scribed to match the profile of the skirting and will be barely visible.0

We’re not cutting the skirting - it’s a new-build house and we’re far from sure on room layout. Pax are a cheap solution for a few years till we decide what to do longer term.
We’re also not cutting the wardrobes - we’re planning on getting a lot of them and already aren’t looking forward to the assembly time!
Happy with them stood proud of the skirting board - just working out how to fix to wall. Baton on the back seems the most common solution but I’m not sure what sort of wall fixing you’d then use as it’s not a solid wall, but a plasterboard fixing won’t be great through an inch of wood first?
As I said, stupid question but was checking I wasn’t missing anything and simple L brackets on the tops would work.0 -
Yes you can use the L-shaped metal brackets on the top, we have done for several Pax wardrobes in our house. You don't need to buy any, Ikea customer service will supply them to you for free if you ask. They didn't have enough for us in store, so they had a dozen shipped to us from the warehouse in Sweden free of charge!0

All you need is something that fastens/connects between the top of the wardrobe & a stud in the wall.
Make sure the wardrobe is level or leaning back against the wall before fastening.0 -
You can probably get the fittings free from Ikea - they usually have a free small parts bit in the returns dept.
That said, I've had various Pax wardrobes for 15 years, and never fixed any of them to the wall. We don't have kids to worry about to be fair, but the wardrobes don't budge.0
