Hi does anyone have any good suggestions for what to put in a hamper for keen walkers (OH's Auntie and Uncle) they are in their early 50's, I had this idea at lunchtime when I bought some fab folding cutlery from the pound shop, it has little loops on for fastening to your keys/bag! but now I can't decide what else to get
my budget is around £20 for the joint hamper.

You can often get walking guides quite cheaply - buy from bookshops and sites like the Book People, or even get them free from the tourist board. You could get a (local) pub/B&B guide too - I've seen them quite cheap in Poundstretcher (Instore) before now.
Kendal Mint Cake is a traditional walkers energy snack, and comes in a few different varieties.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
What a good idea!!! :T
How about one of those foam mats for sitting on, compass, pedometer, energy bars, energy drinks, survival bag, warm gloves/scarf/hat, handwarmer gadget, walking socks, flask, water bottle....ermm ermmm.....0 -
If you have Tesco clubcard vouchers you could give them a subscription to Country Walking Magazine. I know that wouldn't take much space in the hamper but would be a great gift!
Walking socks - It might be worth looking in Poundland or similar for thick socks. Water bottles might go down well too. I got a great water bottle from Tescos that came in an insulated case and with a strap to go over the shoulder - great for trips out (cost less than £2).
Scarves and gloves might be a good filler for the hamper, particularly for walking in this weather! You can pick them up so cheaply in so many shops now.
They might like a plastic case for an OS map.
Lots of random thoughts but just trying to think what my mum might like!0 -
How about handwarmers like these

I'm sure you can get them cheaper than this from other places but just posted this link to show what I mean.0 -

When I visited poundland in August they had a little survival whistle. It's orange colour, and the main body is a whistle, the other end is a little torch, there is a compass on the side and you unscrew it and there is a little chamber inside. I also bought a normal compass.
Other ideas include:
gloves
hat
map case
warm wool socks
gaiters
pen knife/leatherman tool
folding cup - my kids each have one of these and they love them. You can get them from camping shops or army/navy stores.
Flask
Carabina (Tog 24, Mountain Warehouse, Millets all sell funky shaped ones)
Binoculars
Glow sticks
Fire lighting flint
First Aid Kit
Survival Blanket:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j0 -

Deal Extreme have some little (& cheap!) gadgets such as compass keyrings, torches, penknives, survival whistles (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4338), hand warmers, etc.
Take a look here - http://www.dealextreme.com/products.dx/category.805
I love their little gadgets, I keep trying to think of ways to make them fit in with my families hamper themes.0
