Should I be paying ulez???

My previous car has a private number plate, and I was paying ulez as the TfL website said my car was due to pay. I changed my car, checked my new reg no and it was exempt. Now I have put the same reg no on and I am not exempt, yet when I check the car I took the number off it is not exempt. So it seems to be charging for the number rather than the car. How can I stop this??

I think everybody's car has a private plate.0

GO back to the DVLA and check the old reg number has been appropriately updated.
Or call TFL, perhaps once they have grabbed a reg number and discovered what type of car it is they dont do refresh it.0 -
When I put my reg into the ULEZ website, it then tells me the make and model of my vehicle which I then confirm.
Does it not do the same for you? That'd tell you if TFL know the plate is on a different car and if you should be paying the ULEZ charge.0 -

If that's the case then it's a useful loophole to be exploited.0 -

My car is a 65 plate Euro 5 car but the TFL web site tells me I am exempt, I have no intention of going anywhere near the London ULEZ but Birmingham plans to do the same which I may go near. Bham tell you to check via the TFL site.
Interestingly after telling me I am exempt the web site says
The compliance status of your vehicle for the ULEZ has been calculated based on the information you provided. It is your responsibility to ensure the information you provide is accurate. Every effort is made to ensure that the information we provide you is correct at the date of our response. However, we provide no warranty as to the accuracy of the information and accept no legal liability or responsibility for its accuracy. If you are in any doubt over your vehicle's Euro emission standard, please refer to your vehicle registration document - also known as a V5C - or contact your vehicle manufacturer.
So does that mean if I was to check the web site and be told I'm exempt and then drove in the area is there some proper vehicle check which would generate a penalty charge?
Edit you need an account and to register need to upload V5c or similar to prove EURO status so even though initial check says exempt. Glad I don't live near London.0 -

I'd read previously that you only needed to upload your V5c to prove exemption if the checker came back as not exempt and you didn't think that was correct.0 -
We moved a personal number from our write off to the new car.
When we traded that car in the garage queried that the car had been written off . After 7 years the system they used had not been updated.0
