Civil service - reserve list

Hi Bonniepurple,
Thank you for the advice - however, it's in a different location but handily just a short walk away.
I will be able to bin my 2 hr a day commute and I can't wait!
I'm trying to work my way through all the pension info online as I want to really get the best for my pennies.
Currently, I put in 17% and my employer does the bare minimum so having additional coming in is rather exciting.0 -
I would really like the opportunity to work somewhere where you can enjoy your work but also really get some stability to invest in developing my role, pension and career.
I've worked in four jobs since graduating from university (all very technical, requiring specific skills and background) and am now a civil servant doing an equally technical job.
Seven years in the previous three roles didn't provide anywhere near the opportunities I've had in 18 months as a civil servant. It's the first permanent job I've had, so there's financial security. I've already been promoted once and have an interview for another promotion this week (unlikely I'll get it, there's a lot of good internal applicants). I've worked on some really high profile projects and had real influence on them. In my department there's endless opportunities to work on something that isn't your primary job role or take on additional responsibilities that aren't in your pay grade (if you show ambition to progress), it's even possible to try out a totally different role for a period of a few months (which has become even more true during Brexit).
I definitely get paid less than peers in similar roles in big tech companies, but this is made up by the pension contributions (currently around 27%) and the other benefits (25 to 30 days annual leave plus bank holidays, and proper flexi-time with fixed working hours).
Unfortunately, in my line of work, there's very little need for technical people at SCS level (most of our SCS are career civil servants with no knowledge of the technical stuff we actually do, and get paid substantially less than the technical folk who work underneath them) so it's likely I'll end up leaving the Civil Service once I get to that sort of grade. But, in the meantime, it's providing excellent opportunity to learn and grow.0 -
Update - I am moving slowly through the pre-appointment checks.
But something unusual has happened. Today in the portal, there has been an email tree added of several emails over a number of days.
Within this exchange the chair of the interview names the lady leaving her post, grade details and that I will be moving into the vacancy when she leaves.
This then seems to generate a quite bun fight regarding my status on the reserve and my mobility to this role. The respondee mentions that the job I applied for is not the job that I was offered and notes that on the application centre I do not have scoring (which I don't)
The Chair responded in a further email - that regardless of both that I ' bench marked' and therefore am suitable in a tone that seemed to say 'im not arguing about this with you' kind of finality........ but without actually supplying the information the respondee has requested such as my scoring or why I am suitable.
Is this cause for alarm?0
