Price comparison and smart meters

So Martin thinks it's OK for a main condition to be on display only in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard'?
Martin is keeping well out of the way of all social media until the kiddies go back to school
And who'd blame him, eh?0 -

Sadly there's no escape: "By signing up to the Fixed Tariff you are agreeing to have a Smart Meter installed in your property. This means we will contact you to arrange a suitable installation date."

It doesn't say that in the quote on Compare The Market though. It simply says 'agree to be contacted'0 -
In the Welcome to Eon email under the heading:
Getting Smart it states:
"We will be getting in touch to check your home is suitable to fit smart meters"
Under the heading:
Other Key Information...: It states
"we will contact you and offer you a smart meter, if you are eligible for one".
In the Important information box, you click into: The terms and conditions for this tariff.
In bullet point 11. T&Cs for customers on Fix Online Exclusive: there it is in point 11.1 "with this tariff you agree to be contacted during the tariff term for the installation of a smart meter.
While I accept it's there after some digging: it should be a banner on the switching site, they did this with BG and free boiler cover for 12 months its not that hard to be transparent.
Suggestion: A smart meter will be needed: Check T&Cs.0 -
Contact and Offer are the key terms for me. Neither is a binding term.0

With SP changed my tariff through mse 2mths ago. Changed again as another tariff with SP cheaper. One mse tariff information said nothing about have to sign up for a smart meter. Checked again and another tariff was on offer, this time on tariff information, it said i was consenting to a smart meter. So, did give me this information as others have said. Decided not to go for this one.
But on going into my account messages SP tells me i have to have smart meter installed within 3mths or they will take me off this tariff and put me on standard rate. So the other 2 tariffs on mse did not inform me of this. But it did on the 3rd one i looked at. So SP has gone from saying to register my interest to, in my opinion, bully tactics. As said by dqj999 mse should give this information as standard.
Has any other energy provider changed their tactics like this.0 -
I am member of energy club and on review decided to take advantage of MSE switch to SSE.I am against blackmaill of meter switch plus concerns over meters themselves.
I instigated switch and got sent t&cs.I clocked condition 5 and rang to cancel switch,I spoke with manager in customer services/complaints who tried to assure me I did not have to switch meter,5 is to " not a requirement but was SSE job to promote the government initiative/ when contacted re installation i could still decline"
I challenged this and suggested 5 amounted to a contract plus come installation time I would be outside 14 day cooling off period.Manager insisted he was right but then changed his mind to say he was not sure same tariff would be available should I decline installation.
I asked my call be treated as formal complaint.5 does not mention any of what manager initially said.Manager agreed and said he would consult and get back to me,.Im waiting.0 -
Referring to my question on a time scale of 3mth's for installing smart meters. I was looking at other ones and came across BG had the same 3mth's terms in their T&C's So they are changing their tactics to get them installed. As others have commented we will only get the cheaper tariffs if we consent to have them. So much for not been compulsory.0

Yet i havw have signed up to cheaper tariffs with no compulsory smart meters .One supplier asked to fit and i said no .0

Not a invitation but a bully tactic. And they are not the only ones. Believe me the others will follow.0
