O/S Daily Saturday 17 August 2019
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need one, hugs to those who are poorly and those looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH and myself up and enjoying first cuppas, he's watching catchup tv, I'm showered, dressed and eating my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit, DS2 settled and ok.
Clear start to the day although it's wet underfoot from the rain yesterday - forecast is better for today.
Dinner last night was chicken and ham kievs, chips/jacket potato and beans for the menfolk, I had vegetable and giant cous cous stir fry - really enjoyed it too. Tonight dinner for the men will be individual steak and ale pies, chips, peas and gravy. I'll be having fishcakes and fancy some caponata - so will use up some of the veg in the fridge for that.
Yesterday I got done what I wanted, ironing etc, food shopping, although I spent quite a lot - the outside freezer needs defrosting, but there's so much in it at the moment, need to use stuff up before that can happen. I've made a decision re my slow cooker, it was a wedding present and has been well used, but now the wiring has been mended twice and is just not safe - you can put it on with food in it, it'll work for a while then just switch itself off, sometimes back on again too - so it's going to be got rid off, it's not financially viable to spend more money getting a 27 year old (yea, somehow I've been married that long!!) slow cooker new wiring/mended. So I'll be getting an electric pressure cooker/multi cooker - have done some research and although expensive they have a good range of functions that hopefully will save me putting the big oven on - and I very often used my slow cooker on my work days' - so we had a cooked meal ready when we came in. I won't be getting it yet though unless I can get a really good price.
This morning I'll be going to town to visit the building society - then not too much else to do. May do some more shredding - I seem to have a paper mountain.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Overnight rain has now reduced to mizzle and a better day ahead is promised with sunny intervals.
I think I might trip off on the bus somewhere today. We don't have a lot of choice of bus journeys from town sadly so I think I may end up in Otley. There is a Saturday market on and there is always the temptation of St Gemma's with everything 99p. But it's their upstairs room that summons me most - books! And when they do two for 99p that's too much to resist! Even though I am still wading through a backlog of books I didn't really need!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need. TAFF so sorry your dad has relapsed again. xx Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning and thanks for starting off NMLC.
Hope you get a good deal on an electric pressure cooker. I looked at them at the beginning of this year when I could no longer get spares for my old pressure cooker - it was over 30 years old and perfectly ok, I just couldn't get the spares any more. In the end I bought another conventional pressure - there are only two of us now, and I'm retired. I also have a halogen oven and a combi microwave, plus a slow cooker, so really I didn't need something with loads of functions. When I worked / had family at home like you I would have got one though.
It seems quite bright, and it's not raining. Yesterday was terrible. rain nearly all day. We went to the caravan and took out the remaining stuff, and that was it, didn't go out any more.
There was plenty to do here, what with putting stuff away and washing. I used the tumble dryer, and I've got things hanging upstairs on the airer. l'll pop out this morning to have a look in the shops, just in our little town though,
Hope everyone has a good day, thinking of Taff and her Dad, Gers and her Mum and anyone struggling with life.
Take care folks xx0 -
Good morning everyone, cool and dull even though the weatherman says it is warm and sunny. I think it will clear.
After several very sore days and very little sleep, I've slept for over 8 hours and woken without pain. The antibiotics are working, I know they are having some effect as they affect my digestive system and that's the reason I avoid them wherever possible.
I have things to do but they are not urgent things apart from going to the post office.
Hope everyone has as good a day as possibleI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us of nmlc
Looks bright this morning but the rain in the night kept me awake, not that I sleep much at the best of times.
Might go out today, don't need anything but good to get out of the house.
chicken pie for dinner, have plenty of carrots and runner beans growing in the garden.
TA enjoy your trip
Taff I'm sorry to hear your dad isn't too well.
Thinking of all those finding life difficult and our absent friends. I did see OL posted on another thread.
Take careIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Good morning folks.
There's a mountain of cardboard waiting to be taken to the tip today. All the now empty shoes boxes have been flattened and packed up.
The other day DM gave two of her paintings to the roller blind engineer! He was delighted as she had given him two back in 2015. Two down, many more to go. Mind you these two came off the hall wall so there's gaps.
After my shopping and tip trip this morning I'm taking a brooch to a local jeweller for an appraisal's, it belonged to DM's grandmother. It may or may not be tiny diamonds.
My replacing two crowns are purely for cosmetic reasons, nothing as nasty as what AOD is going through. Black lines had appeared round the top edges of the old ones which looked like decay though it was the metal coming through. The tooth whitening has gone well, I'm stopping at the 'subtle' look as I don't want gleaming or dazzling teeth.
It's probably time I stir myself. My thoughts are with all those struggling with life. And I wish everyone a happy Saturday.0 -
Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
It's sunny today so we will probably move, there is still a police presence and forensic tents at the end of the road.
We are just a couple of hundreds yards from where the young police man was killed.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning All
Fairly bright out at the moment, I have the bedding in the WM and will put it out. Lots of rain again yesterday, when will it end?!
Going to pick up a picture from the framers on my way to see DD, we are going to wander for a while to HB and Matalan - not very exciting but I desperately need some clip lock boxes, I think I've given all mine to DD and DS1 with leftovers in and never get them back!
Also going to dig some potatoes from the allotment, I'll give lots away at work as I don't really eat them but they are good for the soil.
Have a good weekend, take care. XX0 -
Morning all
Its a bit dull here this morning but meant to brighten up later on, there is a dog show at the pub later which we may wander down to may enter the pup for the prettiest girl dog and may have a cheeky drink while we are there.
Shopping went well yesterday I got almost everything I needed just a couple of bits to order online, I have gone down three sizes on top and two on the bottom so very pleased.
We are having a chilli for dinner OH will cook it he makes a lovely one, it was meant to be raining all day so I thought this would suit but its sunny now ! hey ho Im sure it will be nice.
Washing on the go and I shall spring into action after this and clean and tidy through downstairs, OH will do upstairs, no shopping to do as I did it the other day.
Enjoy your weekends all xx0 -
Afternoon all! No plans today, am watching restoration programmes. It's really interesting.
I have some tidying up to do in the garden, some picking forerunner beans and cucumber and maybe a couple of tomatoes. I planted some celery in the garden near a bay tree, and you can see where the ground was better or wetter because the ones to the back are about a foot taller than the ones in the front.
A day of pottering and washing and relaxing...
rr, hope the prettiest dog wins! TA, you can never have too many books! AOD , glad the antis are working. SO, nothing like fresh get from the garden...Gers , that was nice of her, hope you enjoy your de-cluttering ! Hester, I haven't seen any news but how awful... camelot, ooo, fresh potatoes! Nom!
Wotcha missings!
Slow Saturday!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0 -
Hi Everyone *waves*
Lovely to read everyone's posts on here. I have been lurking looking for inspiration. My OH and I are moving in together and have 4 children between us (12-18). I am really looking forward to having us all under one room - although slightly apprehensive that DD age 16 might be rather temperamental and upset the apple cart sometimes. I want to get back in to my OS ways and thought what better place to start than by posting in here. Our new home is a 2 min walk from our land where I keep 2 horses and 10 chooks. It will be lovely to have everything in one place as at the moment split between 3 sites!! I have all good intentions of batch cooking and cleaning 2ce a week ... hoping you guys n gals can help keep me motivated
Luv SH770
