So I have alopecia and purchased a wig this company called ‘A List Hair’ has unfortunately given me a faulty product and are now not responding to me..
I will try to cut a very long story short and list the relevant points...
Purchased :- in London Kensington salon conveniently their card machine was “broken” so had to pay with Cash £350+
A custom wig which was made to my specific requirementss size colour length etc.
Problems :- faults from the start, in Wig terminology - overplucked lace, over bleached lace, incorrect colour (extensions were sent with my order so it could be matched to them in person), wig is matted, unlikely to be human hair as sold - trying to send of for lab tests to prove this professionally. Completely now unwearable due to the giant matte in it and unfit for purpose. I have kept the wig in accordance to all of their maintaining guide.
I wear the wig for less than 4 hours 2/3 times per week - it is stated on their website it should last minimum 6 months to 1 year and mine is 2 months old.
Situation now :- after contacting them via phone and email several times, firstly asking for a refund as it’s unwearable. Then asking what they propose to do to rectify this they are ignoring my emails. Sending emails 30 minutes after they close when they do reply so it’s a nightmare to contact them!!
Side note :- unfortunately I’m not the only person this has happened to reviews online - which weren’t there when I bought, state the horrible fact that many women are experiencing these problems with the company one even witnessing them offering customers discount to leave them 5* reviews on google. One lady I spoke to said I was the 21st person to contact her with the same issues!
There ripping people off with cancer, alopecia and other medical hair loss conditions! It’s so wrong and I’d love any help or advice you can offer please!
Thank you :A

What were their responses in the phone calls?
Who was the person you spoke to who said you were the 21st complaint?
Do you have a receipt
Isn't £350 for. A real hair custom wig too cheap?0 -
Are you on the Alopecia UK Facebook group?
If not I suggest you join- there’s plenty on there about scams and who to avoid. A List hair is unfortunately pretty high on the list. The general consensus is that while you’ve been ripped off a decent human hair wig, especially made to order is going to cost way more than what you paid (and there are several other ladies on the group say the same)
My human hair wig (I have alopecia areata and also wear a wig) cost me £550 from Trendco (Trendco Amber) in January. I only wear mine very lightly but the problem with HH wigs is that they don’t generally tend to last too long.

If your hair loss is severe is it possible to get a wig on prescription, free or at least at less cost compared to these sharks? I'm pretty sure a lady I know got her wig much cheaper than you did through the NHS, and it's real hair. https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/help-with-health-costs/wigs-and-fabric-supports-on-the-nhs/
I noticed there is a wig store in the Churchill Hospital (in Oxford). This is a specialist cancer hospital, but it might be worth making enquiries of your GP.0 -
The thing is with the NHS Wigs it depends on the Cc Group in the area as to if you get any wig prescription and what type you get.. my area have a % discount on a choice of 2 wig shops which are nothing short of fancy dress wigs and synthetic too.
I haven’t had alopecia before so I wouldn’t know if it was cheap for a human hair wig or not. Regardless of the price I paid it is still faulty and I’m looking for consumer advice on this not criticism.
Yes I am on the alopecia uk group and other members have messaged me having the same problem with them as this list of bad companies is no where to be found on there..
The reply from the company was.. after me answering lots of questions from them how I’ve cared for it washed it etc.. I was ignored, 3 days later I called and asked for a reply to my email. They replied with “Sorry your experiencing problems with you Wig unfortunately we don’t offer refunds here’s a link to our policy”
I hadn’t asked them for a refund in this email simply answered their questions and asked what do they propose to do to rectify this0 -
The person I spoke to was a lady who made a google review complaining about the same problems, I found her on Facebook and messaged her asking about her experience. She called me and told me I was the 21st person and the only way to get money back is to go into the shop and kick off basically.
She said she left bad reviews on Instagram Facebook their website and they blocked her number and email and took the reviews down!0 -
