PCP damage charges

I handed back a Fiat 500 2 months ago 3 years into 4 year pcp.
There was a full inspection. There is some damage I'd expect to pay for. Small scratches to alloys, missing log book.
But the worst hit is chips on the body work. There are a lot... Maybe 30 per panel or more. Just the paint, no dents. So obviously outside of fair wear and tear regulations.
I'd consulted a bodywork garage before handing back and they said it was likely due to bad original paint job. I didn't have time to get it fixed before handing back and it would have been about £1500. I haven't driven the car anywhere other than on urban roads, sensibly! I didn't get anywhere with talking to fiat before handing back about the liability for this
Fiat are charging me £1200 total fee Inc collection etc. And have reduced that to £955 on request.
Honest opinions please, should I just pay it? Is it worth complaining to bvrla? I accept that the chips are there, but contest that I am responsible because I think it was a fault with the paint job. I've read a lot about fiat paint work issues.
Any experiences on bvrla complaints or helpful advice appreciated.
Many thanks

The time to contest a poor paint job was as soon as you noticed the chips appearing indicating a potential issue -you will have a tough job after 3 years.
If you were quoted 1500 and Fiat say 995 - bite their hand off0 -
You are being charged less than you were told it would cost to do the repairs so it seems like a result to me.
IMHO, if there was a fault with the paintwork you should have raised it as soon as it became apparent rather than wait until after you handed the car back.0 -
Thank you. That is a very fair point! I'll suck it up and pay.0
