i have phoned scottish power with regards changing from prepayment to a monthly d/d.

they have now informed me there is an outstanding balance of £130.
they said they have passed it onto an investigation team who will try and find out why this balance has occured.

now i have a card which i use to buy power cards so how there can be a balance owed is beyond me.

does anyone know what might happen? will they expext me to pay ?
and has anyone had this issue?

    Hi

I have this issue too. Have a card meter & because NPower havent been to change the tarrifs I have run up a debt (of about £200). I have looked this up on the internet and read this article.

    http://www.energywatch.org.uk/upload...ent_Meters.pdf

Apparently some comanies right off this debt completely but NPower will charge you a limit of £70. They told me they were investigating my case & would revert (was told this would be some time). In the meantime I have changed my meter so I am paying DD (which they did with no problem even with arrears).
Hope you can access this docuement.

Suggest you take a look at this thread as it is similiar so will save time typing everything in here.

This doc is only case studies provided by Energywatch & CAB. There are others online too.

This does not mean the policy has at this stage changed. EW & CAB are trying to get Ofgem to make this industry policy.

So, until them - most Suppliers have dumped this underhand process but the big 3 are still doing it.

Shogs - can you provide some evidence of the £70 since Energywatch are dealing with cases over £70 that have not been agreed as an auto write off due to the £70 limit you state. Also, there are plenty of threads in here where Npower are stating they want more than £70 as well.

EDIT: Apologies Shogs, found the link to the Npower part.

RINO100 - it could be a simple issue like the charges on the meter do not match the charges on the account. This means they have not recalibratedd your meter to update it to new charges.

There are plenty of threads on here to read through about peoples experiences.

If it turns out you owe it, they may ask you to pay it before the meter change. However, since it's their error, they will probably just change it and add the sum to your monthly DD for 12 months.
