Upgrade insurance before making a claim

Hi,

We've just discovered we may have a damp problem and have arranged leak detection in a couple of weeks time.

I looked into my home insurance and this isn't covered by my policy, however for £20 I can upgrade to a policy that does cover it.

Can anyone advise on whether I'm within my rights to upgrade to the higher cover and then claim for the leak detection in a few weeks time?

Apologies if this is a silly question - had home insurance for years and never had cause to claim for anything (thankfully).

Obtaining an insurance after you are aware of the insurance event and then claiming for said event is an insurance fraud.

Even if he did, it would be extremely stupid to admit insurance fraud on a public forum...
