child maintenance

Hi all
I hope you can shed some light for a sad and disillusioned person- my partner has always paid his child maintenance through the CSA, for the last 3/4yrs, previously directly. However his daughter will be 18 next month and is not continuing with higher education as she started A levels, has done 1yr but now decided to stop.
My understanding is that as she turns 18, he will be able to stop the payments as the education will change to Open university as this is what she is choosing, can anyone advise how the CSA check whether a child is still in education?
We had reported over 18months ago that she no longer lives with her mum and they did not look into this, as she has been living with her grandparents for this time, so payments have continued to her mum
We are concerned we don't over pay as it already seems you don't get any money back, please can anyone help?
Thanks x

OU is advanced education and if this is the only education then CB (and child maintenance) should stop0

OU isn't always advanced education, they offer free courses that don't lead to qualifications and access courses, which are the equivalent to A'Levels.
In all honesty, OP, and I'm sorry to be blunt, but your other half has what appears to be a vulnerable child. She's dropped out of her A'Levels and is living with her grandparents so all is probably not good, and you're asking if your partner can stop supporting her financially as you won't get cash back if you've overpaid. Take a step back for a moment and look at what you've written. He needs to speak to his daughter, work out what she's studying, and then look into how he can help her.0
