O/S Daily Friday 16 August 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, hugs to those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here.

Cloudy and dull start to the day and rain forecast. Yesterday wasn't too bad and I got all the washing line dried as it was blustery and sun shone on and off.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, jacket potato, beans, cheese, boiled egg and side salad. Tonight will be something and chips for the menfolk, I'll probably have omelette or fish cakes with salad.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, I got a light go over the housework, our bed stripped, bed linen washed and dried and clean bed linen put on our bed. Did the chores that were needed, took car to garage then collected later, it passed - so that was good, but it was serviced too, so not cheap.

I'll be heading to the SM first thing - hopefully before the rain starts, then I'll just get done what I need to at home.

Keep safe and well x

Good morning, it is quite pleasant here but the forecast is not great. I washed bedding yesterday so at least that is out of the way before the heavens open again.

Back to the dentist yesterday, she did some more drainage of the infection, I have yet more antibiotics and the root will have to come out next week. This could have been done yesterday but it meant a long journey home on the bus so I opted for next week when my husband can bring me home in the car. I was glad that I did because it was rush hour and people were fighting for seats, on the second leg of the journey there was a sort of stand-off between the driver and a passenger who had not paid the correct fate -how she did that is a mystery as the fares are standard other than concessionary fares.

I will have a temporary false tooth, then will have 6 months while the bone heals to decide whether to carry on with a false one on a plate, a bridge or an implant. And she has not yet touched the other 3 crowns that need to be redone.

Today I have jobs to do, the Friday Tidy plus. Some can be done over the weekend as they are outside jobs and better done without getting soaked.

Taff that's good news about your dad, sitting up straight is progress.

JackieO Great news about your grandson, well done him!

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible

    Morning All

Raining again after a semi decent day yesterday. Will do some washing later when the pong of the onions has died down a bit as the washing needs to go on the rack where they are drying.

Well done to your DGS JackieO, have a great holiday.
    Small steps taff.

Work wasn't too bad yesterday, I have courses this morning then must crack on with some things that have to be ready for Monday.

Have a good Friday, take care. XX

    Morning folks.

It's rather wet and dismal here though the it should soon pass.

I've got an early appointment with the dentist so need to crack on. It's a long appointment as I decided to have two crowns replaced - they have developed a black edge to them which is horrid. Mind you, they are both at least 25 years old.

What happens after that visit depends on the weather.

    Happy Friday to all.
  • Good morning, it's a cool grey start today, I don't think it looks too promising.

Taff, thinking of you and your Dad.

AOD, you've had an awful time with your tooth - hope you'll son be feeling better.

Jackie O, your Dgs has done really well.

We got home last night at about 7pm. from our holiday with Dgs in N Ireland. When we got to the caravan storage we just took the bare essentials out and came straight home, as Ds and Dil were coming over for Dgs. Anyway after the long journey home we couldn't face unloading the van into the car , it'll get done over the next day or two.

We had a really nice time in N Ireland, the N Antrim coast is so lovely. It's nearly 20 years since we've been there, and Dgs hadn't been at all.
We were out every day, so Dgs had leaflets from each place we went to so he could show his parents, though Ds has been there with us years ago.
It rained quite a lot! but we still got out and about.

Now back to reality, a bag full of washing to do and by the look of the weather, it seems to be getting darker, I won't be putting washing on the line.

Anyway we'll plod on here, tidying and such.

Hope everyone has a good day.

    Take care folks xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Ooh AOD, you are really going through the mill with your teeth, and yet more work to come. Hope all goes well.

It's fine at the moment but yet more rain is to come. What a horrible August we are having. No plans to spoil here though as it's Friday Tidy day! Then this afternoon I might need a bit of a nap as I had a restless night with my painful knees waking me up at regular intervals. I feel half doped before the day starts.

Photos are coming thick and fast of the family in the IOW via WhatsApp. Yesterday they were all in a speed boat (complete with life jackets) a free event organised for Cowes Week. Last day today for them and it's fingers crossed they don't have the same ordeal with the trains tomorrow for the return journey.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. Slightly better news yesterday TAFF re your dad. Well done to JACKIE'S DGS. Missing absent friends. Take care all xx

  • Good morning everyone and a very happy Friday to you all,

A quick visit to the gym post-work, followed by a call with my gran which concluded just in time for the football. After that, I pretty much went to bed but I spent about 4 hours tossing and turning.

As a result of my poor night, no gym this morning. I'll pop in for an hour after work before catching up with some of my mates for a bit. Looking forward to a (hopefully) long sleep.

Not much planned for this weekend. Got an overdue haircut booked (£15) and I'll nip in for a swim (£4.50) at some point too. Aside from that - and groceries - I don't have many spends planned. Wonderful.

    Have a nice weekend everyone!

AoD - Well I hope you're not in any discomfort and at least there's a bit of closure/plan in place.

    Good morning everyone,

It's a rainy day here and a lot cooler than usual. I actually felt quite chilly last night and was glad of my thick duvet. Steve has a day off today as he has an appointment at the dentists. It seems to be a day for it!

I had a rotten day yesterday as I received a letter through the mail from my friend basically calling me all sorts of names because I haven't visited her in hospital. I know she is ill and that is why she is sectioned but we have been friends for 12 years now and I thought she understood about my agoraphobia. She doesn't want to be friends anymore and I feel very sad about it. I did not sleep very well as it was playing on my mind so I feel shattered today.

In other news, Lilly managed to get 2 d's and a c in her A levels yesterday. I am frankly amazed but very pleased for her too. She is still applying for jobs but getting disheartened as she isn't even getting a thanks but no thanks from them. Hopefully once all the students go off to uni, there will be more jobs available for her to try for. She went out clubbing again last night to celebrate with her friends so I don't expect to see her anytime soon as I heard her come in at 4am.

redruby, you have done so well with your weightloss, it's fantastic, well done xx
AOD, I hope you are not in pain with your tooth, it all sounds pretty horrible at the moment. Hopefully the bone will heal quickly for you xx
Gers, good luck with your dental appointment too xx
TA, your knees sound very painful, I hope you find the right combination of pain relief for them xx

My smilies have gone too and I have already tried to post twice already so hoping third time is the charm. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning everyone,it's wet, wet, wet! Looks like DH will be at home all day rained off. I've already had a running commentary on the Met office rain map,and also comparison site figures for car insurance (yawn ;)) I don't think I'll bother going out either, plenty to do here if I get motivated.Cleaning windows perhaps with my new window vac ( only inside tho :D)
DS got some goats milk kefir yesterday - he reckoned its meant to be really good for his eczema but sadly he doesn't think he can stomach it.He opened the bottle and it shot all over the place - Ly1a licked it up though. I had a taste, think feta cheese squashed into milk but strong.I'll have to see if there are any uses for it, it wasnt cheap.
RR well done on losing 2st that's brilliant.
Glad you had a good hol SR
Hope everyone has a good day, hugs for the poorlies and carers x

Back from the dentist - nothing as horrible as AOD's situation. Old crowns removed, posts cleaned up and temporary ones in. Next week I'm going to the dental lab to have a colour match process done. The lab in the in town which was our first family home in Scotland just before my Dad was demobbed. DM says the street has long gone though I'll have a little look.

DM been fed, I've had porridge too as I didn't want to chomp too hard and the local hasn't worn off yet.

The nasty rain is moving northward so it may clear by early afternoon so I may try another outdoor adventure.

Dumpling - so sorry to read about your ex-friend, it's such a mean thing to do. I know it's difficult to put it all out of your mind, however do try. That kind of friend is not needed in your life.
