I hope I'm right in saying that these are high-capacity solid state flash drives. Can anyone confirm that they have to be installed within a boxed PC device and can't be connected peripherally?

You can get an external enclosure for one of these which connects to USB 3 port but much better to plug into an m.2 port for full speed access
