Energise I think you are being way to judgemental!!
£780 isn’t ‘staggering’ this is the amount for 2 adults and 2 kids with one adult wages as £1500. We have had to rely on tax credits for part of our life and this is the amount (ish) we got and we went BR as life is so expensive to just live when your income in only 2K ish a month. There are SO many people playing the system way more and getting lots more money so I think you should reserve your judgement for other claimants. My husbands brother and his GF get that plus PIP and whatever else more, way better off than us and she just knows how to play the system.
I feel for you on the groceries side I budget currently £100 a week but my husband eats loads! And so do the kids lol it’s all about negotiating with the OR just submit it and see. Have you put clothing on there I can’t remember seeing it? And I was given £20 for emergency fund a month. Good luck0 -
I'm not making a judgement on the individual, I'm just genuinely shocked that the system pays out most of a months salary when there is already an income of £1,500, if people can afford £600 grocery shopping and £50+ cigs a month it is clearly too much for what should be a safety net.0

Lots of reasons for 'in work' benefits (the ones for 'hard working families'): Childcare Tax credits Housing benefit in high rent parts of the country, disabled child, disabled parent...its not all cash for fags n gin you know...and yes, you so were making a judgement...;)
Go judge a flippin highly paid financier who is milking the tax loopholes because he can afford a good accountant...0
