TSB Transaction Blocked

Hello,

I recently tried to purchase some ticket via the British Airways website but because of the large sum of money the transaction (and now I'm assuming the card too) was blocked.

I'm not annoyed about them bring cautious I'm glad they're looking after my money.
What I am annoyed about is this bring the 4th time it's happened and the 4th time they've not sent me any texts or called me to confirm the transaction when they're supposed to.
(Yes, all of my contact details are correct)

So my question is: Do I HAVE to phone up to get this sorted or can I get it unblocked in branch or even online?

Thank you for your time.

Do they actually make any sort of commitment to contacting you when declining transactions? Most banks don't.

You're making assumptions about the cause of the declined transaction (it may not be value-based) and also that it's the card rather than the transaction, but phoning seems the most obvious route to get it sorted out. I'd find it difficult to believe that you'd be able to sort this out via online banking (as they'll probably want to ask you some questions), but if you have time to spare during working hours then it might be possible in branch....

You shouldn't have to have all this ridiculous nonsense I had it with Lloyds and in the end I just gave up and switched away

i am now with first direct and Barclays and never had anything lblocked
  • I did just 30 minutes ago manage to use my card to make two purchases
  • So I'm not sure what the problem is.

Usually when I get blocked from transactions they block my card entirely.

Could it be a British airways problem?
  • You need to make the distinction between having your card blocked, your account blocked and just having a transaction declined.

You will need to speak to them. If you don't fancy waiting in a seemingly endless telephone queue, you could try driving from Land's End to John O'Groats (and back again) and then call into your branch to see if they can get hold of the right people for you - that would probably take less time.

PS. This isn't me having a 'go' at TSB staff, it's a comment on how long it takes to get to speak with them.

My experience with these sort of things is that even if you pop into branch you will still end up having to call someone, particularly if the fraud department is involved (as this is a central TSB thing rather than a local branch thing). That said, you can ask branch staff to call on your behalf from the branch - you usually don't have to go through too much security (since you'll verify your identity in branch) and usually jump straight to the front of the phone queue.
