Would really like some opinions as to whether I’m just being daft really but think these timings are too long?
I will be teaching year 2 in September (first yr teacher)
8.45-10.45
10.45-11.00 morning break
11.00-12.00
12.00-12.45 lunchtime
12.45-3.25

Too long for who :rotfl::rotfl:
A scheduled 6h40m with 15m break and 45m lunch for 39weeks per year :eek:
How do you think the rest of the population manage ?0 -
I was thinking for the children (6 yr olds )0

Don't worry, they'll still be absolutely buzzing at 3.25Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Looks fairly standard to me, although, locally, KS1 children seem to get an additional afternoon break of 15 minutes.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

It's really not for random strangers on t'interweb to say if they feel school sessions are too long.
If you as a teacher feel they are too long, discuss it with someone involved with the school:
other teachers, head etc.0 -
Thinking of changing the world in your first year of teaching eh? That'll not last, believe me. Head down and prepare for the worst year of your life.

Break up the 2 hr sessions into smaller chunks of different types of activity. 2hours could incorporate story time/ writing/ art and crafts/ movement activity/music/nature study outside . If you wanted to be really trendy a short meditation session. I've also heard that short yoga sessions help children to concentrate. Used to be called lesson planning or is that out of fashion these days.0

What about all the after school meetings and other work. I would routinely add another 3 hours to my working day when I taught. As already said though the post was about the children finding it too long.0 -

Indeed. I sense a question about 'When will the children go to the toilet' is imminent...0
