How long should insurance take to settle

Had a bump on 5th August, car taken to garage and two days later was written off by insurers as costs to repair too high.
They collected the car the following day and took to their own compound. I'm now waiting for them to tell me what they will pay out by their assessors (up to the crash the car was in great condition, serviced recently).
I'm without a car and need to get a settlement so I can buy a new one.
Is there a guideline on how long the process should take?

we had a non fault accident last year, accident was on the Sunday, we were provided with a hire car on the Tuesday and the funds for our car were paid in on the Friday. We were able to keep the hire car until the Following Monday.
insurers were RAC and LV.
Not sure if it makes a difference being not at fault? They also offered us £225 above what we paid for the car 14 weeks earlier.
We are still waiting for the money for our injuries 16 months on, but I'm still not fully recovered.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023
Make £2024 in 2024...0 -
Who took it for assessment? (Your insurer/third party insurer/claim handler/ someone else)
And who is now dealing with the claim? That is who you need to be asking!
If a third party is liable then consider hiring a car and subsequently claiming back the cost from the liable third party0 -
My insurer took it, they are dealing with the claim.
No 3rd party is liable, just me.0 -
Whenever you are not happy with your insurance company the route to go down is a complaint in line with their complaints procedure
Then if you are not happy with the reply or they ignore you for 8 weeks you can escalate to the FOS for their adjudication at no cost to you
You won't want this to go on for 8 weeks but get a complaint in today to lay down your marker0
