In legacy benefits the determination was the date the claim was decided on, or the date the initial entitlement letter was issued, which is after the date that the claim is accepted as valid. It could be withdrawn at any point up to the letter being issued, afterwards there was a separate term used that I can't quite remember but you could cease claiming effective from the date of claim. Is that correct? According to
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/793836/adma2.pdfA2111 A person who has made a claim may withdraw it at any time before a determination has been made on the claim. What is the date of determination for a UC claim?
I fear the DWP will consider the date of determination to be the date the claim is accepted as valid. If that is the case seeking to withdraw the claim will not make it as if the claim never existed, it will simply close the claim. If the claim is closed then any attempt to claim again within six months will preserve the assessment periods already established which will be of no use to someone in OP’s situation.
Personally, I would argue that as there is no initial entitlement letter, the most similar part of the process in UC would be when the AP is ended and you get the statement on your online account. It's only at that time that you know if there will be a payment or not.
Of course, what I think is irrelevant, its what the DWP considers it to be that's important.0
