Europe Weekend Recommendation

I hope this is okay to post here. I couldn't post on the travel agents thread as I don't have a specific quote.
I am looking to book a cheap, last minute couple of days somewhere in Europe and wondered if anyone knew of any good deals or recommendations please.
It will be for a family of two adults, a 13 year old and an 11 year old. Ideally flying from Luton, but Heathrow could work too. Leaving morning of Thursday 22nd August and either returning late night Saturday 24th August or arring home by about 3pm on Sunday 25th August.
We're not really fussy where we go as long as there are places of interest for the children, preferably somewhere including a buffet breakfast.

If you're heading from Luton, take a look at Blue Air flights to Romania. Bucharest is a nice city and you could take a train up into Transylvania or take advantagd of some tours.
Your money will go far there as well.0 -
Travel Agents usually aren't very good for European breaks. Much better (and more fun) to do the looking and book it yourself.
Go to SkyScanner but in Luton to "Anywhere", choose your dates and see what pops up. Once you find somewhere tempting, book a cheap B&B/hotel.
I doubt that there will be much that is cheap over the next couple of weeks as we are still in the school holidays and there is a Bank Holiday coming up but if you are prepared to go somewhere a little more unusual then I'm sure you will find something.0 -
You don’t mention budget, although Luton screams Eastern Europe for it’s availability of flights and the fact your spending money will go a lot further.
Unfortunately “cheap” last minute, and peak travel season aren’t things that go together very well. The standout option seems to be Budapest at £145 each. A great city and loads to do to keep a family entertained for 3 days. Accommodation is plentiful and reasonable.
However they also have flight to Timisoara (Romania) for £140 each. I’ve no idea what’s there but research it, might be fun - a bit of an adventure!
Also Reykjavik for £155, Iceland is wonderful although expensive when you’re there. Kosice (Slovakia) £179 - as with Timisoara I’ve no idea but it might be worth researching, the surrounding area looks nice and your money would likely go a lot further for accommodation outside the main tourist destinations.0
