O/S Daily Thursday 15 August 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Clear sky and cool start to the day, damp underfoot so we've had rain during the night at some point.

DH and DS1 up and getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was pork loins, mash, carrots, broc, mushy peas, mixed veg (me only), yorkshires and gravy. Not sure about tonight but have a few different options and can organise it at some point today whilst I'm working my way through the "to do" list. I have to take the big car to the garage this morning for a service and MOT, so more expense but it needs doing.

Yesterday work was very quiet, had a few customers all come in together near the end of the day, the weather wasn't great so puts people off.

I'll get going with the chores and need to visit town after taking the car.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning and thanks NMLC.
We are up earlyish, leaving N Ireland this morning for home.
I've read along some days, hope everyone is all right, and has as good a day as they can.
    Back to normal tomorrow.
    Take care folks xx
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for the new thread. SCARLETRIBBONS have a safe journey home.

I was woken up twice with torrential rain battering the windows through the night but that has now moved on to pastures new and a decent day is forecast. We were fortunate yesterday on our bus trip out, we escaped with just odd bits of drizzle. We tossed a coin and ended up in Ilkley (a change for them but not for me as I go frequently for M & S food!) We just strolled aimlessly window and cs shopping and finally a leisurely lunch. Sadly the new painkillers didn't help much at all.

I have the hairdresser coming around 9.30 to tidy me up a bit. When it's short it soon needs trimming back a bit. I addressed my roots the other day as the skunk look was taking over.

Then I might have to think about doing a bit of food shopping. I don't think I need much. With the girls away on the IOW and no minding to be done I haven't had them eating me out of house and home!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely. SILVER-OLDIE I hope you were able to get an answer re travel assist. Take care all xx

  • Morning all.

Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need.

Beano is a bit unsettled at the moment, the river levels keep changing which means the gangplank keeps moving, which in turn knock over the baby gate we use to stop Beano falling overboard. He keeps barking as he thinks it's someone getting on the boat.

We finally have an offer on our old boat, let's hope it comes to something.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning All

Wet and breezy again this morning, yesterday it rained all day, so miserable but cheered up by a visit from a neighbour who brought 2 jars of jam.

I went to the allotment and lifted some onions, cut the tops and they are drying, not sure how I'm going to dry the rest, there are hundreds! The rest of the day was spent lounging about. Washing up to date but hanging on the rack.

Back to work today, no children until Monday but today will be mostly taken up with meetings.

Have a good day, take care. XX
  • Morning everyone,

Is it just me, or are we getting quieter and quieter on here now? Missing some regulars I've noticed.

Half way through August. How did that happen? It'll be *C word* before we know it! I've been at the gym this morning and I'll aim to quickly nip in again after work before going home to watch the footy and have my weekly catch up with my gran.

Yesterday, despite my lunch time yoga class, lacked vigour. Almost counting the clock, which rarely happens, but I left work relatively sharpish and played some xbox with the boys for a bit. Which is my favourite way to unwind and have a laugh.

    Scarlet - Safe travels
Hester - Good news on the boat. Fingers crossed it all goes through, providing your accepting the offer of course

    Morning all.

I've been lying on the bed surfing around for a while.

A letter came back from the social work office about respite care, the dept is being reorganised so they'll get back to me when that's done! Fat lot of help. I'll explore a private package now.

This morning DM's cleaner is due and the this afternoon the new roller blind for 'my' room is being installed. More excitement :rotfl:

There's still plenty of provisions so no shopping today.

Thoughts with the poorlies and the missing. Happy Thursday to all.

Morning all! Waiting in for an electrician to make the house safe. Have my orders 're purchased for the hospital, tissues and something else I've forgotten but it's written down and I'll get it before I go this afternoon. His colour was a lot better yesterday and he say up straight in bed too, first time I've seen that. Will go to the hospital canteen and see what's on offer that may tempt him to eat a bit more. Their canteen is actually quite good, better than some pubs I've been in.
Also good is that one of the initial nurses who was there for the initial diagnosis is going to be on the case so I'll go a bit earlier (electrician permitting) to have a chat with her if I can.
There's no discharge date as yet and although the afternoons are proving tiring, I do get a lie in which is good because I'm absolutely useless in the mornings.

Hope the boat sale goes through soon for you Hester..SO, also hope you found some more info..Speky, enjoy football. Happy travelling SR! TA, hope the haircut makes you less skunky :)
Wotcha missings! Come back and stuff....

Good morning chums very happy Grandma this morning, our Henry got the results he wanted at 'A' level and has been accepted and got his place at Essex Uni, the boy done well, as he had to really work hard to achieve these.
Of all my DDs boys he sometimes struggled with school work. But I am so proud of what he's achieved.I am treating him to a slap up lunch to celebrate today.

Of her five children the eldest Katie went to college and became a nursery nurse, the next one down Ben is a teacher then, next in line if Jack, who is at Uni in Hertfordshire, and now our Henry is joining his brothers in carrying on at Uni.
Only Mikey to go and he does his GCSEs next year, so fingers crossed

All hard working boys who I am very proud of . Yesterday DGS Jack did a 12 hour shift at the coffee shop, and he has worked almost continuously since coming home on vacation in May.

Henry had his first day off today to get his results ,he has been working for a local company landscaping and grass cutting since he finished his A levels in the beginning of June, and has been stashing his cash towards his Uni start next month .

So not a lot of housework or cooking being done today just a good bit of celebrating :):):) Hope everyone who had children awaiting exam results gets good news, its a trying time for the youngsters and they all deserve a pat on the back for all their hard work

    Morning all,

No rain today so far......we had enough yesterday to last for a few days at least!

Speky.....agree about small numbers....not sure why.....I miss them too, but am hopeful of their return.

    Well done your grandchildren JackieO.

We had the pleasure of DGS2 for the night.....he is almost 17 and I don't see as much as I did when he was younger......love him to bits, he goes back to school early September 2 years left of school and then whatever he decides to do......at present it's psychology, who knows what the next 2 years will bring.

I hope that the boat sale goes through Hester.

We are going to have lunch after we drop DGS....he is off to the city with some of his mates.

Am still looking for someone to do some gardening.....neither OH or I are up to the heavier stuff anymore.but difficult to find anyone reliable....most like to do their own thing rather than what I want.....very frustrating.

Youngest son is 41 today.....only seems like yesterday he was borñ....only 2 of my brood under 40......frightening.

Have good day everyone.....black dog asleep today!
