Removal of goods notice received - have nothing of value to be removed

So I received a removal of goods notice today due to failure to settle a CCJ (just under 2k plus now £380.00 +VAT "fees".

On the date I will be at work but I guess they will come just before I leave for work or just after I come back from work.

I have absolutely and I mean absolutely NOTHING of value so how on earth is this going to work?

No car, no jewellery, no electronics (old TV, work laptop and work phone), I really mean NOTHING of value.

They are coming net week - I actually want to be at home and let them in so they can see I have nothing for them to take. It is genuine nothing.

Debt is from over 15 years ago, I messed up and missed the statue of limitation response to their letters from earlier on this year (it was some catalogue debt from what I remember, sold on several times) hen it was well over 9 years since I had ANY contact with them.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? With removal of goods where there is no goods to remove?

What is likely to happen?

Thanks a lot

Who has instructed the Bailiffs to call - is it a DCA ?
If the Bailiffs call and they verify you have no assets for them to take to settle the debt (after their fees have been paid) then the ultimate sanction your creditor *could* take is to petition for your bankruptcy (but thats not a certaintity).
You will get charged a Stage 2 fee of £235.00 for them to attend + £75.00 for the Notice of Enforcement.

Bankruptcy threshold is 5k, so forget that.

Just don’t let them in OP, they can only enter through an unlocked door, keep them out it’s that simple.

They don’t want goods, only money, plus they are only county court bailiffs, they may try to over exaggerate their so called powers, the CCJ doesn’t mean they can force entry.

Just keep them outside, they cannot do anything.

Pay it, they will come if you're not there. You will be charged for their visit and double the bill.

Get the money somehow, from somewhere.... else the debt doubles just because they stood on your doormat.

    Thanks for the replies.

I have no money to pay them and no means to get money to pay them.

I do not want to avoid them, I actually want to take a day off work to let them in so they can see for themselves there is nothing for them to take.

Keeping them outside and have them coming back again and again would be quite embarassing to be honest

I just really wonder what next?

The claimant takes it back to court and obtains an attachment of earnings?

Can you make any offer to the bailiffs and an initial payment?
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

What would be a reasonable offer of monthly repayment plan - can anyone advice?
No, I can not make any initial payment.
I could maybe offer £50.00 per month but would that be accepted or would they want more?

When you make your written offer of £50/month, I suggest including an attached SOA which shows that £50 is all you can reasonably afford each month. :)

You should not let them in, once in, they will not leave without money, you will make things much worse for yourself as they will not give up without getting something.

Keeping them outside, you retain control, once in, you lose that.

Never, ever allow a bailiff entry to your home.

Well they will have to leave without money as i have nothing to give them - it really os that simple.

I just wonder what will happen next?

I am not going to do/show them any SOA either as I know what I can/can not afford on terms of potential monthly payments and do not feel the need to create/share any form of SOA for them.

This is some sort of VERY old catalogue debt - that is all. It must have been sold numerous times

Realistically, if there genuinely is nothing to remove, and you don't pay or engage with them, how long will bailiffs stay in your property (if they gain access)?

They have homes to go to eventually, they need to eat and use the toilet (sorry, can't use ours!!)

What would they do if you just put the kettle on and carry on your business around the house, or just sit watching TV?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)
